Sometimes they regrow and get burnt off multiple times.

If they’d allow the horns to grow, it would be impossible to keep so many cows in the same area. The one with the biggest horns would bully all the others and a lot of cows will get hurt. If there are multiple with big horns, they fight for dominance. They keep getting into fights till one of them is killed.

Sometimes the horns keep growing and the animal needs to go to the slaughter because of it. Each time the horns are burnt off it’s a chance to get infected, so you can’t keep doing it. If you let it grow in a case like this, the growth is uncontrolled and would most likely curl up and grow into the cows head, causing all sorts of problems. So a cow like that isn’t useful for growing more cows and producing milk, it’s only purpose would be to get slaughtered and provide meat.

The more you learn about animal farming, the more you want to become a vegan.

That’s actually patently false. Farmers’ families are very unlikely to become vegan.

People who are unaquainted with farms being fed the “worst” of it are the ones who want to become vegan. And it’s an understandable reaction.

the fuck is all this bullshit? do you even know what you’re talking about?

Most breeds maintained in any number in the US these days, typically angus, herefords, and holsteins, have had any visible horns selectively bred out of them. They’re just too hard to keep otherwise. Yes, those with horns do get them docked if necessary- but if they have them, they’re probably a range breed that are not handled in the kind of close confinement that makes horns unacceptable. All those breeds are just not that common anymore.

Most people engaging in these arguments are happy to accuse the United States of the sins of all cow-rearing countries. The anti-cow folks can’t have their cake and eat it too. A majority of people involved in both sides of these discussions are in countries that use progressive cattle-rearing processes that are more humane, more ecologically sound, and more nutritionally sustainable than countries like India and China.

One would hope that people bothered by these things would take their time to visit a farm and see the full experience and relationship of cows and farmers, instead of making major life decisions off snippets.

For example, it seems minimally fair to show the outcome of cowfights (the reason we dehorn them), or to depict that the options (for any animal) are domestication, wild, or anti-natalism. People bothered by these things are likely to be equally bothered by a cow bleeding out slowly in the jaws of a predator animal, OR the idea of basically wiping out the species.

A lot of things that gross vegans out are for the good of the cow, but make wonderfully horrific soundbytes.

Why would I want to watch propaganda? Also, what’s “fail” about it? I’d rather watch a real animal be slaughtered, prepared, and eat it than watch some “exposé” designed to scare and disgust people.

You sound like you’re 12. You’re not even making bloody sense. I don’t understand what you’re talking about, except the clear note that I’m less than human to you.

Miss me with your lack of compassion.

Why are you singing “miss me” because I’m not going to kiss you. I don’t know if English isn’t your first language or if you’re just a middle-schooler, but when you insult someone with incomprehensible nonsense you look pretty sad.

You said it yourself, but yeah you do misunderstand.

Like I said it’s not meant for people like you. It’s meant for people who I don’t need to convince that what we unnecessarily do is wrong, you’ll feel it if you have the empathy, and that’s entirely on you and your morality bro.

The people this will reach and make think, will tell people what needs to be done, and even when they know, and don’t want to do it because irrelevant reasons, they STILL do what needs to be done, because compassion.

If you don’t get it, it’s OK! It’s not meant to “be got” by you.

Take care, try be better bro x

Unfortunately, it’s not explained much better here, but let me try to respond.

Like I said it’s not meant for people like you. It’s meant for people who I don’t need to convince that what we unnecessarily do is wrong, you’ll feel it if you have the empathy, and that’s entirely on you and your morality bro.

You seem to be falsely accusing me of lacking empathy. I can’t really respond with more because you’re still not giving me a coherent reply. And I tend to lean on ethics more than morality. Right and Wrong should be quantifiable things, not things other people have convinced us of. I have a feeling I know a whole lot more about morality and ethics than you do, and have probably spent a whole lot more time seriously considering the implications of things like veganism. I just concluded different than you.

The people this will reach and make think, will tell people what needs to be done, and even when they know

That’s why I’m here. Fighting propaganda and lies. It’s easy to convince somebody to join a cult if they only hear the cult’s side of things.

they STILL do what needs to be done, because compassion

Nobody should be making important decisions about their lives or the world over irrational emotion and personal trauma. That’s not compassion, it’s brainwashing.

If you don’t get it, it’s OK! It’s not meant to “be got” by you.

Trust me, it’s not going to “be got” by anyone. Since I actually spent time trying to reply, I can tell you that everyone else will be 1 line in on yours and say “I have no idea what this guy is saying” and move on. I’m not afraid of you convincing people to be vegan. I’m afraid of other, more eloquent propagandists doing so

Take care, try be better bro x

Cows only produce milk when they’ve recently had a baby, so farmers get their cows pregnant every year. The females become the new milking cows, and the males go into the grinder. The males aren’t used for meat because different breeds are used for milk than for meat.

This is not true. Dairy Bobby Calves are used for veal.

Squeamish people being unwilling to eat veal is the main reason that they are not all utilized for that purpose.

Agreed. People are wrongly disgusted by veal and think they’re doing something good by avoiding it. More people should eat more veal.

It’s a little better than that, males are kept pent in too small enclosures and fed only milk until they’re too fat to move, THEN they’re slaughtered, because veal is pretty fuckin tasty

Yes farmers are definitely known for maximizing cruelty for giggles over efficiency and profit, and that’s why they murder bulls for fun.

Perhaps have even one conversation with an actual dairy farmer in your life.

It’s not as bad as that. Dehorning is one of the “worst” things in dairy farming, and it is done to ***save *** pain and lives.
