Article Update: In less than 2 days, #Threads somehow gets even worse!
https://rentsuru.medium.com/its-been-5-minutes-and-instagram-s-threads-already-sucks-f10d507807ed
My feed is now all those interesting people, places, & publications that I followed on #Instagram over the years reacting & replying to celebrities & brands like Dunkin Donuts and fucking Paris Hilton.
Or worse, seeing celebrities & brands replying to each other.
Awesome. 😬

TIL, good bot.
Good bot

So… The Twitter replacement is getting used like Twitter, by people (and brands) who bailed from Twitter?
Surprised face.
@RxBrad agreed, BUT with Threads, you see all these brands & celebrities in your feed even if someone you follow just likes something from them! You get assaulted by corporations!
So very thankful for the Fediverse.
Yeah, the forced algorithm is the worst.
Here’s my extremely unpopular opinion… Because they’re eventually Fediverse’ing, if you actually wanted to follow some of those brands/celebrities/orgs/etc, you could do so with a non-Threads Mastodon client and completely excise The Algorithm.
But, let’s just defederate instead, I guess, and remove that option.
I think a lot of people feel similarly, we’re just exhausted from all the pearl clutching in the fediverse.
I think it’s cool they’re federating. I’m excited to see some of that mainstream content without giving up so much of my personal info/data.
I’m also excited that there will be defederated places to go to if I don’t want to see/interact with the Meta crowd.
Mas.to has already planted their flag in the “we’re blocking anything Meta” camp. So now I get to jump through the hoops to migrate to a different server.
I even tried to spin up my own server last night. Unfortunately, I failed. Setting up Mastodon in Docker Compose + Portainer isn’t nearly as easy as other services.
@kobra@lemmy.world @RxBrad@lemmy.world - don’t forget the opportunity to raise of awareness of the FOSS fediverse as well. Interractions like this are what make me think that there might be a bright side to Threads federating
i love it
I basically logged in once. Long enough to post, “yo, this algorithm is gross”. Then went back to Mastodon.
Don’t forget the VERY innovative and generous 500 character limit they’re enforcing. Wow. So much characters.
i’m totally fine with brands and celebrities having their own social media tbh. i’m honestly quite glad threads has made it clear what their desired userbase is.
Can we lock that room and throw away the key?
Yes! Each instance will have that ability, it’s the beauty of the fediverse
@Duchess Saaaame!
Following up on this, I’m hoping that some journalism organization sets up a “default” instance for verified journists to post from. It was nice having verified Twitter instances for this purpose.
@renwillis @fediverse “Suggested” posts are a cancer on social media. I don’t mind them in their own dedicated feed but my primary use is to network with my friends, family, and social groups and I don’t want “suggestions” injected into that feed in every other post from people I don’t care about.

I always found it hilarious and sad when people interacted with brands. “Someone you know liked Walmart”. Why?
“I liked them ironically. As a joke.”
What this feels like:
@Wander lolol
How come so many people are already verified?
Probably carried over from their Instagram account
@Tag365 It’s just their IG verification coming over to Threads.
I just archived all my Instagram posts and changed my bio to say I was done with the platform, “you can reach me through my website” and so on. Fuck that noise.
@renwillis They just announced they won’t be a news platform like twitter. Deleted my account. I have no interest in a platform for influencers.
@Jeze3D @fediverse I’m not sure how it’s not. Just like here on Mastodon, people will share news.

What’s wrong about this and why are you crying when you’re choosing to use that app. This is self inflicted brain rot lol. I don’t like celebrities in social media, so I simply don’t use it or follow them!
who’s crying? lol As I wrote in the article, I’m already on IG, already sold my soul to Meta, have a large following, so figured I could do the lord’s work and spread the good word about the fediverse AND share what’s going on there back here to the Fediverse to help with any FOMO some y’all are totally feeling.
@renwillis @fediverse i was having a bit of a fomo over it but it seems so boring so i’m better now lol

@renwillis I got on Threads for like 10 mins and immediately noped out. I couldn’t put my finger on why I hated it so much, and didn’t care enough to waste the brain space to figure it out. You managed to encapsulate what I was feeling perfectly in your write up.

Screenshot, don’t link to that trash site.
Thank you! Sorry, this app doesn’t have link previews yet and I’m not on my PiHole. I hate it when I click something that suddenly brings me to a FB or Tiktok site when they’re not blocked.
