according to Cory doctorow (pluralistic), trumps gouvernement will likely selectively enforce antitrust, so the Google case would go through, but cases against, say, tesla would be dropped.

all you have to do is
host your own PDS, where your account lives, this is easy, I do it myself already.
host you own appview: the only actually good appview is bsky’s, luckily it’s open source, unfortunately I do not believe they made it easy to self-host.
Host a relay, this isn’t all that hard, it just needs a real big server (AFAIK it needs a shitton of io throughput), so unless you’re very rich it’s not too realistic to host this.
So yeah, a PDS is easy to host but the other two parts are a pain, and since the protocol has only been open for a few months, people haven’t really done too much.
Frontpage exists, but they haven’t made it be able to interact with bsky.Social, although the accounts are shared. I have been told by people involved with that that that’s an issue with frontpage’s implementation, and not the AT protocol
do you have a good guide on how it works/ho to set it up? I tried a little while ago but couldnt figure it out.
I’d recommend you use Matrix, you can always ignore messages if you dont want to answer them right away
why usenet over torrents?
awesome! Do you need someone to translate it to french?
Lunduke post detected, opinion discarded
They have full vulkan now too, but it’s not quite mature enough to be enabled by default rn (afaik)
If you want a more windowsy layout, you can use the "dash to panel# extension to accomplish that
I wouldn’t recommend Garuda to someone that’s completely clueless about tech as KDE is less intuitive than gnome and cinnamon, and because you have to use the command line a tad more than on mint zorin. It is still a good choice for a new user though, just maybe more for someone who is reasonably competent at using a pc
Til, thanks!
Would this give latency comparable to wired?
Try beeper, it’ll let you use sms and signal (among others) on the same app, the app isn’t open source but their server infrastructure is open source and self hostable (it might not be easy to self host it though)
Try vesktop, it makes discord actually work properly on Linux (among other things)
That’s nice, stuff like that does make dual booting harder unfortunately
Yeah it gets updates slowly, but zorin 17 has MUCH newer packages, and it just went into beta.
Its updated to to 22.0something
Although the new surfaces have good repairability apparently!
Is the benifit making secure boot work better?
the reason there arent relays is that theyre expensive to run (150$+ a month, if you rent, and the cost seems to scale linearily with the amount of users on the network), i saw a blog about someone who hosted one briefly (https://whtwnd.com/bnewbold.net/entries/Notes on Running a Full-Network atproto Relay (July 2024), and it isnt even that hard to setup, it’s mostly just the cost.
Also, relay’s aren’t technically needed, you could make an appview that pulls from pds’s directly.
