  • It’s the point of no return for something, but I suspect there’s still a future to fight for. Anyone pushing a full doomer view is trying to suppress you. In case the worst happens, you should try to build a community around yourself and support other people. Join a mutual aid group if you can (or start one). If you grow produce or something, talk to your neighbors and exchange resources.

If we build a strong foundation, nothing that happens can break us. In the worst case, they’ll try to break us and break themselves upon us. We need to be strong so we can come back stronger in the future.

  • (VS)Code(ium) is great. (VSCode is MS fork of the OSS Codium.) It’s a popular editor with a lot of plugin for just about every language. It has an integrated console. It can do basic Version control (and you can use the console for anything more). It’s my favorite editor/IDE (not technically and IDE, at least out of the box). Just don’t do things you don’t understand. It’s that simple. The OP fucked around, and they found out what it does the hard way. It’s really easy to use if you have a basic understanding of things though.

  • Personally, I’m pretty good with the CLI version, but sometimes I just use the Code VC interface. For some tasks (basic commit, pull, push) it’s pretty fast. I don’t know if it’s faster than CLI, but I switch between them depending on what I’m doing at that moment. Code has a built in console, so using either is pretty seemless and easy. If you only use the GUI you won’t ever understand it though. I think everyone should start with CLI.

Honestly, this is true for almost everything. GUIs obfiscate. They don’t help you learn, but try to take control away so you can’t mess up, and as an effect can’t do everything you may want.

  • Your comment about wealth seems to be dismissive. Sure, many people have more and do worse. That’s not an argument saying he can’t do more. That’s only an argument that he could do less also. He can obviously do more. Saying one thing is worse than another thing doesn’t excuse either. Both can and should improve.

I don’t know about the laws surrounding him as monarch. Maybe you’re right that he can’t say anything. I don’t believe this is totally true because the monarchs platform people frequently. Maybe they aren’t supposed to, but they obviously can do more than just keep quite. He could invite this woman to a state dinner, for example, and give her more of a platform. There are many options available. He is not powerless to do anything.
