I’m kinda on the fence about it. On the one hand that is how it is supposed to work. That the new thing gets better, faster when everyone uses it. However, I liked to watch this dude named Brodie Robertson on youtube and a lot of the major features took years to land in wayland.
Not because it was hard, no one wanted to do it, or any of the normal reasons you traditionally see in foss. The reason why it took so long usually seems to be the result of having to argue that it should be done. It is honestly mind boggling that things like disabling vsync, global shortcuts, and many other features that many of us take for granted were all initially dismissed as essentially “not even deserving to exist”.
People aren’t lying about it. When windows 11 first dropped this literally what you had to do. They may have back pedaled since then, but there are bunch of threads all over reddit about getting around using a microsoft account on windows 11.
Why not use something else? I know what community this is but still. Internet Archive serves a lot of important purposes and they’ve got enough heat on their back as is.
Privacy is important everywhere, people most often answer this question regarding digital privacy, but think about in your everyday life. For example, I just bought a house. Buying a house is public record here in the states. The moment you buy a house companies will grab that data and then start trying to sell you services. They will use the name of the bank that you took out a loan with, they know your loan number, loan type, loan amount, full name and address. They will do everything to misrepresent who they are as if they come from the bank that holds your loan to sign you up for some service you most likely don’t want or don’t need. Older people fall for it all the time. Digitally it just gets worse.
Cool, gave it a look. Didn’t know the firewall settings page came about because of collaboration with them. Didn’t see anything about funding, but I hope they are.
I’ve seen at least one article of Valve funding some work on kwin for a short time, but nothing of them funding the actual desktop. Do you know of any sources for that?
I’m just waiting for linux phones to be as viable as linux on the desktop, which I already use. I’ll take whatever drawbacks come with that decision.
I was wondering this exact thing. Lots of stuff made it in, but not a peep from the linux gaming community when they had been talking about this for so long.
