Looking for recommendations on a good FOSS journal/diary app for Android. Preferably encrypted at rest. Cross-device sync isn’t important for me, looking more for a thought dump than anything.
I recently found jtx board.
It has journal, todo list, and notes functions but it can be customized to only show whichever function you use on the main screen.deleted by creator
I started using Joplin recently and like it, but I’m not sure it quite fits what I’m looking for in this case
Does it encrypt at rest or only in transit? I haven’t been able to find a clear answer (which makes me believe it’s not)

Fair enough - I hadn’t even considered going old school, but that might be a good idea! Thanks for the comments
It’s encrypted during transit only (if using HTTPS), though you can look into an encrypted filesystem on the server and the clients you use.
Sorry, but you are mistaken. Joplin definitely encrypts data at rest if you enable end-to-end encryption: https://joplinapp.org/e2ee/
Nice! I didn’t realize this was a feature of Joplin!
It has full E2EE, the files are encrypted on your own system and whatever server you use.
edit: you just have to explicitly set it up using your own chosen keyphrase.
Have you looked at Notesnook? It has E2EE and data at rest. You could use it without an account if you don’t care about sync. But if you ever did it has apps for every platform as well as a nice web app. There is a free tier and a paid tier. I finished my trial of the paid plan and was offered a 30% off coupon code for a 1 year membership. For $25 I figured worth a try.
This looks great! I just downloaded it and so far it seems to be what I was looking for. Thank you!
Oh good, I’m glad you like it! I think this will be the app to beat once they launch the self-host option. I don’t mind paying $25 for a year to let them host it (encrypted of course) but I’d much rather host it myself.
On of my favorite features I just discovered last night actually. If you put /now in the text entry field, it’ll inject the date and time. Makes it nice for the journal type entries. You can also do /time and /date if you only want one or the other.
For example:
Maybe logseq?
I personlly use markor if you are willing to use text files for simple task like that, probabily It will work for you
