You don’t even need to be a rich westerner with the difference in economy. The average Thai you meet there assumes all western travelers are rich, especially those from the US, even though you may be considered middle class or even poor back here.
edit: don’t ever tell a tuk driver you’re from the US, after that you will be taken to every scam shop they’re affiliated with.
Thailand is super great for a holiday, if you’re a relatively rich westerner, or if you don’t know the language.
If you ask the locals, they’re likely to give you a different opinion.
