Its fucked now. Those systems are forever compromised. You’d have to spend hundreds of millions scrubbing and auditing to be sure, and even then you can’t be. They’ve had unmitigated access for too long.

The solution is simple. Copy all the information and paste it into word pad. Then spend a billion dollars entering the data into a secure system.

Politely, I think this comment is unhelpful. What do you propose that they do? Our government is based to a large degree on the assumption of good faith. The Supreme Court, for example, has power because the constitution says it does. They don’t have the capacity to actually enforce the rulings they hand down.

The current president has basically said that he doesn’t care about the constitution, and is just concerned with stealing power for himself and his cronies. Elections are supposed to be our mechanism for dealing with that.

What’s the point of rules if the president can just ignore them? Were they just counting on the president not being the sort of person who would break the rules? That seems like a bad plan.

What do you propose that they do?

Impeach and remove Trump. Yes, a Vance administration might do the same things but Congress would make it clear they’re not willing to allow such bullshit.

Or subpoena Musk and others, which I know recently failed a vote to do exactly that.

Congress CAN do a lot of things, they were designed to be a powerful pillar of government. They have ceded much of that power through inaction over the years but they can take it back.

As you pointed out, they attempted to subpoena Musk and the republicans voted it down. They’ve also introduced articles of impeachment, which they successfully put through last time only to have senate republicans refuse to convict on the basis that trump was no longer president.

Yes, what congress WILL do versus what they SHOULD do are different things.

If you look at things like the recent Gaza statements by Trump I think it’s clear Trump is going to continuously step over the line and others will need to walk it back. Eventually that someone will be congress, I just hope it’s sooner rather than later, although I fear it will be later rather than sooner.

There are a lot of things they can do, but also if they are breaking the law and blatantly ignoring the constitution I would argue basically anything is on the table to stop this, even if it is “extra legal” or whatever.

Because if they don’t the entire system of laws and rules and everything is fucked beyond repair.

You’d think there’s enough global support that something might kick off elsewhere in the world. But those not having to deal directly with the nonsense going on in the US have the benefit of being able to sit back and spout off.

Sorry we’re not revolting fast enough. Kind of hard to do when things are generally equally split in the country, and the majority of folks need to keep going to work to keep food on the table.

Probably all as designed, but we’re all too damned tired and those doing things we don’t like know it.

For real. People don’t understand how powerful targeted propaganda is. A lot of the most radical and armed in the US were intentionally targeted so now all of their media, friends, friends media are all saying the same thing and telling them everything else is a lie.

This story for example is, on the right, just the Democrats and deep state trying to Elon now that he is exposing REAL corruption.

We are arguing different facts, arguably because so much of media is just “trusted sources” instead of anything verifiable anymore

Lets be honest, most of the people who get stiff when looking at guns support this. They were always going to bend over for authoritarians because if authoritarians took over the government they were going to be right wing.

Supporting this. They’re the reason this admin is anti-DEI, anti-immigrant, and anti-culture. They’re willing to accept losing all of their freedoms as long as they get their Two Minutes Hate

To be fair, the ones supporting this don’t think they are losing freedoms. They’re mostly in the groups unaffected by these changes, so it’s a bet positive in their eyes.

Those dumbfucks are a vocal minority. We tend to forget that the internet is not necessarily representative of a population. So pretty much every “extreme” really ought to be taken with a grain of salt.

I can say for certain that they dont. At least not all of the firearms. And “or else”? Really? Are you intending that to read as a threat, or merely a warning about said dumbfucks?

Because that sort of “threat” is a nice indicator of the type of person that shouldn’t have access to firearms.
