Pretty sure early Netflix was competing with outright piracy, so they had to keep their prices down and their service convenient. Actually that is probably the best state for a digital market to be in, where there is a vibrant piracy community keeping companies honest with both their prices and services. Because fuck the law when all it does is fuck me.

Did anyone really expect this part of the policy to stay? My understanding is that they only reinstated the nudity ban, the rest of the new allowances are still allowed.

It helps a lot that that’s revenue and not profit, so it ignores other expenses. Of course, I don’t know how much that matters, but it is still enough to hurt.

There probably are, but Saudi Arabia owns a bunch of land in Arizona and decided it was the perfect place to grow alfalfa, a very water intensive crop. That said, some farming does make some sense even in the desert, since it is almost certainly cheaper to have local produce than to need to import everything from places that have an abundance of water, even if that means building canals to water them.

Because it is maintained by a for profit company and because I believe it defaults to sending back telemetry data to said company, though you can opt out of that. Those are the reasons I’m aware of anyway.

There is a kind of precedent for this actually, back in the 90s when Microsoft got dinged for bundling internet explorer with Windows. This feels like it’s basically the same thing.

A standard I could see being applied is one that I think has some precedent, where if the work it is supposed to be similar to is anywhere in the training set then it’s a copyright violation. One of the valid defenses against copyright claims in court is that the defendant reasonably could have been unaware of the original work, and that seems to me like a reasonable equivalent.

To be fair (somewhat) Win10 had the dumpster fire that was Win8 between it and Win7, so it had all the people upgrading from Win7 as well as everyone that had Win8. Not defending Win11 here, I’m never going to use it.

She’s not the only one that was there. There were other people there that were murdered and other people there that were raped. Just because one was spared from that fate doesn’t mean it didn’t happen to others.

It is for those of us who care about our privacy. I for one don’t want nebulous corporations with questionable ethics and data security policies knowing and tracking my every movement. And while yes, I recognize that to a certain extent that is unavoidable in this day and age, I don’t condone it nor do I want it to be easy for them.

They don’t just keep track of what videos you watch, they also keep track of what parts of those videos, as well as everything you search for and everything you begin to search for but never actually do. They also keep track of where you are when you watch the video and what device you are watching it on.

I was impressed when I read a justice that had an interest in the case being decided one way or another recused themself from that case. Why is the bar so low that that impressed me.

Speaking as a 23 year old windows user (though one that want to move to Linux eventually), the only one of those that I am is a tech enthusiast. From what I’ve hear Reddit started the same way, tech enthusiasts built it up and then everyone else noticed how good it was getting and moved in.
