  • Windows 2000 sold as both a server OS and a workstation OS, but there was no home edition of 2000. There was also no professional version of Me. It would probably be more accurate to say there were two separate paths of evolution that converged with XP.

    NT -> 2000 -> XP
    98 -> ME -> XP

    Though, XP is built off of the NT kernel, so you could also argue that the 9X line ended with ME.

  • They are kind of two separate things.

    Pi-Hole will work on literally every device on your network. It can block ads on smart TVs, cell phones, etc. It can prevent certain forms of tracking on video doorbells, voice assistants, cameras, etc. You can also set up custom DNS to restore online service to old game consoles or to host web services at home.

    You also get all the metrics. For example, I can see that my computer reaches out to my printer several times a minute and that the Oculus app for my Quest 2 was reaching out to its servers even when the app was “closed”.

    You could also use it as a sort of parental control. It can provide one set of block lists to the parent’s devices and a different one to the kids devices. Or you could do the same with IoT devices so they are only allowed to reach out to the services they need to be able to run.

    uBlock is still important though. It’s possible to get around a DNS filter like Pi-Hole by serving ads from the same domain that the core service is served through. uBlock Origin can do things like block YouTube ads for instance.

  • I think that: sudo apt purge xfce4* sudo apt autoremove

    should do it.

    I’ll point out that the other answers here are also correct. It depends on how you want to clean it from your system.

    “apt remove” will only remove the packages, not the config files
    “apt purge” will remove the packages and config files
    “apt autoremove” will clean up the orphaned dependencies
    “xfce4” will only remove the DE
    “xfce4*” will remove the DE and most of the other packages that come with xfce

    I bought an electric car because it was a better car for my needs. I got a good deal on it. Electric cars have fewer, simpler moving parts. They require fewer oil changes and don’t have to deal with heat dissipation. I can also have it plugged into my house each night, which means I always have a “full tank” every morning. I can set the heat or air conditioning to come on on a schedule because it doesn’t produce carbon monoxide. The car is much quieter and drives a lot smoother.

    They have a lot of benefits, but they don’t exactly save the environment. Lithium mining is very destructive to the local environment and it’s done in countries with questionable ethics around worker health and safety. Most experts agree that over the lifespan of a car, electric cars are better for the world environment than gas vehicles, but if you really want to make an impact on the environment, taking public transit or biking or walking or other forms of micro-mobility would actually make a way bigger impact. And if those kinds of things are difficult where you live, you should really be supporting public policy to make that better.

  • There are three separate things going on.

    1. Gamers Nexus made a video exposing LTT for their lack of quality control in their videos regarding providing accurate information after a video where an LTT employee said that they did things better than Gamers Nexus.

    2. Gamers Nexus also brought to light a situation where Billet Labs loaned LTT their prototype liquid cooling block. LTT proceeded to publish a video where they tested it on hardware that it was explicitly not designed for and then proceeded to give it a bad review. In the video, it was clear that LTT knew it was the wrong hardware but Linus specifically said to not waste time on doing it right. After that, they failed to return the prototype and instead they sold it at auction during LTX.

    3. Ex-employee Madison made some pretty serious accusations of sexual harassment and a culture of not taking issues like that seriously. There have been a few “insider sources” that have confirmed her story, though I don’t think we know who they are yet. Nobody has mentioned who the harassment came from yet.

  • J. J. McCullough on YouTube is a pretty popular YouTuber that says aboot a lot. As an American who moved to Canada, I hear a lot of people use “aboat” a lot instead of the more American “abowt”. Though it can be pretty difficult to distinguish between a Canadian and American accent, especially since both countries have several different accents.
