I was at a hotel once and went to the bathroom while heating up some food. The microwave finished and beeped like 10 times then beeped every 15 seconds until I opened the door. I don’t really understand what problem that’s meant to fix, it’s not like the microwave keeps microwaving after it beeps and shuts off, nothing’s going to catch on fire

My drier at home does this too, although every 10 minutes as opposed to seconds, and I don’t understand that either. Washing machine I could understand since if you forget about it for too long it might go mildew-y, but once my drier is done, it’s done, and won’t turn back on until Its turned back on. A beep every 10 mins might be nice as an optional toggle or something for forgetful people, but it’s just plain annoying

There’s certainly some of that here, although much less than Reddit and various other popular places on the internet. Something I’ve noticed about the disagreements here though, is that they don’t instantly devolve into abuse and name calling, and feels almost… Professional? In a way. It feels like the way people disagree here is less like how things genuinely are on the internet, and more like a disagreement in a workplace. Things stay civil and respectful, nobody’s abusing anyone else.

I’ve also noticed that different opinions can actually coexist here, like you’ll have a post with dozens of comments and 1 of those comments states an opinion, and then somebody with just as many upvotes makes an entirely separate comment with the opposite opinion. You never see that on Reddit, where any comment with an opinion different to whatever the main ones on that thread are will be downvoted into oblivion. Hell, it’s rare to even see a 2 posts in the same subreddit with differing opinions where one hasn’t been downvoted

Yeah, my first account on Lemmy was actually on Beehive, but I was confused by their sign up process (there wasn’t a page update telling me I had to verify my email, it just happened in the background and didn’t appear to do anything when I clicked sign up). I sorted it out when I checked my email an hour later, but that killed the vibe for me. So then I made this account, but jerboa didn’t support Aussie zone at the time so I made a shitjustworks account and used that for a while until I started becoming more active in the Aussie zone communities and tried to jump ship just for the ease

But yeah, I saw quite a few people who were very confused about the whole instances thing and a few others that have jumped ship a few times because of it. And as I mainly browse local top day, then all top day once that runs out of content, and my instance federates with all the instances I want to interact with, I don’t see a reason to use either of those other accounts I created

It’s like those mirror covered buildings that reflect their surroundings, giving the impression of unbroken landscape

And it can actually work well! Until they forget they’re meant to clean them

Those photos don’t convey how genuinely hideous it is in person. It’s horrid

  • I used to work at a KFC and I think one of my favourite memories was during a very busy Friday night dinner rush I was up front service and older couple, maybe around 60ish. Someone in the drive through had apparently ordered 5 pieces of chicken breast, and one of the girls in drive through yelled very loudly WE NEED MORE TITS

The old people were not happy, but everyone else found it rather funny
