If this is a reference to the hbomberguy drama, the actual story isn’t the drama. It’s about the rampant stealing/corner cutting/blatant plagiarism that big YouTubers are engaging in and making bank off of. They are often even lifting from lesser-known channels to make their money. It’s not right.

Ehhhhh I value privacy as well, but I’m not sure I am so blasé about unrestricted access for minors. I just think that’s more the domain of parents - with some government oversight, of course, but not nearly to the extent they want. And definitely not via the methods these bills are pushing.
There are so many useful tools for parents to take care of this. Those who do not feel comfortable need to become informed. Imagine if every parent who didn’t like the idea of teenagers driving a car refused to teach their kids how to live around cars and streets.
Parenting is a lot of work, but that’s the game folks. Prohibition culture doesn’t work and the government can only do so much. At some point you have to step in and be a parent, because the Internet is part of our lives for better or for worse. The best you can do is teach your kids how to navigate responsibly, protect themselves, and come to you when they don’t understand something/see something potentially traumatic. Because they will lol.
That applies to literally everything. Anything can be made illegal. It is not illegal to sideload. This is such a stretch, you can’t possibly believe this argument.
You cannot compare sideloading to ticket-able offenses or actual crime. It is 100% legal. Nothing can stop you.

If the answers are “no” and “no” then there’s no parallel with jaywalking and there’s nothing to debate.
Sideloading isn’t a ticket-able offense. It’s just a name for a thing we are all within our rights to do. That’s not really comparable.
Now “jailbreaking” is a term I definitely take issue with as the language straight up makes people question the legality.
Those occupy so little space and are so easy to avoid. I’m a little surprised it’s that annoying. Like I get it on the psychological level, only wanting to have the stuff you want on your machine. But frankly, I forgot those things were even on my tower because I haven’t seen them in years.
I know this sounds like a critique of your stance, but I’m kind of just thinking out loud here. I get where you’re coming from, and obviously it just doesn’t bother me as much. But now I’m afraid it’s going to in a few weeks lol

There’s no need to be a jerk. For some of us it is just unexpected to hear that folks have phones where they download their primary messaging app. It would be like downloading an app to make calls - it’s just such a fundamental, core feature, that I wouldn’t really think to go third-party for my daily usage. It’s not that it makes no sense, but I hope you can understand why that is a little surprising to some people.
I know that in the 20 years or so since I first got a cellphone I have just used whatever is on the phone natively. Nothing wrong with using WhatsApp, you do you. But that was how it used to be, and WhatsApp did not become so dominant until recently.
