They have some shady (or at least questionable) enough actions in their past, some even covered by mainstream media, that made me dismiss them as an option. I went with the German hosted mailbox.org instead. Swiss law (where proton is hosted) is actually quite a bit less protective of privacy than EU/German law, or maybe just protected in other ways. The international reputation of privacy protecting character of Swiss law seems to be outdated?

Just to be clear, I can’t remember exactly what the specific events were that caused me to reconsider back when I switched years ago. When I just did some quick (!) searches just now, I found statements that they would only record ip addresses in “extreme criminal cases”, but examples include cases of trespassing and property damage. Not exactly child molesters and serial killers (example source). I also understand that the (Swiss) laws relevant to them probably forced them to, but at the very least that seems dishonest or misleading advertising.

The point is to avoid left turns when merging onto or leaving from the smaller road above. Keeps the traffic on it flowing.

don’t get me wrong, plenty of things need troubleshooting in Windows, too. but a one time upgrade taking a bit too long isn’t exactly a persistent problem.

Do I understand you correctly that Floris had swipe typing? Cause I tried the OpenBoard fork that has it, and it was horrible. It technically worked, sometimes, but most often was even slower than hitting individual letters. Usually I have to correct maybe 1 word out of 20 or so with GBoard, and even then what I want is one of the suggestions 95% of the time. with the OpenBoard fork, 3 out of 5 words were wrong and the correct one was suggested like 2 out of 5 times.

If its swipe is usable, I might give Floris a go…

edit: ah, English only. Not gonna work for me. I also prefer to have multiple languages active and being able to swipe in any/all of them. guess I’m stuck with GBoard…

I think you overestimate how large the percentage of people leaving actually was. Wish it was, but don’t think the number actually leaving made a still visible dent in their traffic graph. surely some toric specific knowledge did leave though.

The coolers work well, but at the cost of noise. under any gaming load they are exceedingly noticeable. The classic use case for this form factor is often servers, where noise doesn’t matter. you also see these on more professional cards, but their whole power budget is often under 100W, so remotely the same category.

I miss mostly small details. example: an option only have the fingerprint reader activate if the power button is pressed (when screen is off). why? cause the fingerprint sensor is the power button, and it’s the place I happen to hold the phone at when putting it IN my pocket, often unlocking it. it also keeps vibrating with ‘negative detection’ haptic feedback when just handling the phone, and any part of the hand touches the sensor.

there are quite a few options like this missing that area common on other phones.

I’m subscribed to quite a few channels. The problem with the notifications is that I can’t distinguish between notifications for live streams or those for videos or Community posts. The only notifications I would care about are for live streams, as hose happen “now”, I can watch videos why time. I don’t wanna be spammed with all the notifications for normal videos, while I still want them in my notification bell menu on the site (so notifications need to be on for the channels).

YouTube can do videos and live streams, but it doesn’t let me distinguish between these fundamentally different things in a meaningful way.

I watch a lot of twitch, probably more than I should honestly, and while the platform has problems it’s really not that bad. I rarely ever have issues with 1080p streams, honestly basically never. They don’t really ever buffer or stutter at all. So I don’t know where that issue is coming from for you. I can watch multiple 1080p60 streams in parallel just fine. Typically watching multiple perspectives of the same game, none of them buffer.

As for the usability issues you mentioned to switch from live to vod, and back, that’s kinda fair. I also don’t think it’s all that bad, but it is somewhat inconvenient. You don’t need to type in ‘/videos’ though as you seem to suggest, you can just click on the channel name, then the videos-tab is right there that contains all ‘past broadcasts’.

What the platform does right is discoverability and user interaction. If I wanted to watch live gameplay of some game, and I went to YouTube, I wouldn’t even know how to find streams of it at all. Also when following someone on twitch, I can be informed that he’s going live (notification or even mail), wifi im pretty sure it’s impossible on YouTube. User interaction is also just not there. I really wish other platforms were viable, cause competition eventually causes everyone to just do better, but nobody else seems to even tryn to take a share of their market…

I have completely forgotten about this comic, and I don’t know why. I remember reading all of it like 15 (ish?) years ago or so. I can’t even remember how I found it or when exactly it was, but it was part of my feed back when “Google Reader” was still a thing. While unfortunate, as a consumer it’s the only recourse we have. We don’t buy unity, we buy games. I won’t buy a game that might just suddenly disappear from a store where I bought it, cause the developer can’t or won’t carry install fees that may or may not come at any point.

Yes, it hurts developers. Yes, he shouldn’t have to suddenly have to pay that fee, but that is out of my control. But I’m still not taking the risk with my money. Unity clearly wants to do this, eventually they probably will.

Let’s stop buying games with unity so they have no customers left that can slam with install fees after-the-fact. All we can do.

Movies generally have a much longer production time than a year. So the script was most certainly finished before ST III was released in cinemas. So BTTF writers would only have knowledge of ST III if they also wrote it, and even then it’s highly unlikely that at the time of writing BTTF it would’ve been public knowledge (or even a made decision) Lloyd would be in ST. Getting most certainly wouldn’t have even started for BTTF.

Having the sun shine through a large window is an issue, but is also an issue for a good picture on normal TVs. Picture quality with protectors is better when the room is darker (increases contrast), but a normally lit room is just fine. It also depends on how and what you’re watching. I generally do darken the room when I’m actively watching a movie, but no need for that when putting something on you’re just half watching. You can still tell just fine what’s going on even in a bright room, it just looks a bit washed out.

It also depends on the brightness/class of the projector of course, and on the screen. Don’t underestimate the visual difference a screen makes. Both having any screen over just projecting onto a white wall, and a great screen over a cheap ransom one.

The core issue is that a projector uses throwing light as bright, and not throwing light as dark. If your surface (screen or wall) is rather white and illuminated without the projector actually projecting light into it, that is as dark as a black part of the picture could possibly be. There are screens that are reflective, but more gray than white, those help with that, too.

I would say a normally lit room (with artificial light in the evening for example) is fine to use a projector. “Well lit workspace” really depends on you’re definition. For my definition of “well lit” it wouldn’t be ideal, but I’ve just installed like 49000 lumens of illumination into my 3.5 x 3.5 meter workshop, cause I like to see what I’m doing and life is too short for bad lighting.

I have solved this by not buying a TV in the last two decades. I just own projectors. Larger screen, cheaper, no “smart” nonsense. Depending on mounting, essentially invisible when not in use and not a large black rectangle in your living room. Do recommend.

Yea same. And I wouldn’t buy an Xperia as someone suggested, as someone I know has one and it has horrible reception (wifi and mobile). Whatever they did with the antennas isn’t working. Maybe it’s better on newer models?

Headphone jack will remain an absolute requirement for me as well. No jack, no buy.
