I love Peertube, but I don’t think I’ll really be able to test the app properly until my subscriptions are showing
Well with a touch screen you have to look at what you’re doing.
With physical buttons, you don’t have to since they have a shape.
Are you looking at your keyboard while typing on your computer? Now try not looking while typing on your phone 🤓
The install was really easy even if sometimes the Surface is a bit difficult to boot on an usb drive. I don’t know why but the Usb drive is easier to boot when using ventoy on it with multiple bootable iso’s on it.
Otherwise everything is easy and I had nothing to do to make it work fine on Fedora.
I just don’t know how the installation process would have been without the typecover (keyboard).
Lately I’ve installed the Linux Surface kernel to improve the mouse bluetooth also.
I don’t know anything about MEGA sync, but a used Surface Go 1 with 8gb if ram and the 128gb ssd is my daily driver and works really well with Fedora.
Thanks a lot. I’ve now installed the surface kernel. Sadly it still takes a long time for my mouse to be recognized.
That’s not necessarly a problem if it got rid of the disconnection problem at least.
Sorry to annoy you but it means it’s not gonna update when I update the distro via the graphical interface?
Thanks for the thorough answer. I’ll probably just try the surface kernel but I’ll look more into what ublue is.
Okay thanks for the answer. I guess I’ll try it and come back here if it doesn’t work.
Just a question, is the surface kernel auto updating?
I’ll never understand how someone can get paid like that. If Mozilla was destroying the opposition, I’d get it though.
I spent a year using Ubuntu, but it’s only when I moved to Fedora that I discovered that switching workspaces and using touchpad gestures was important in the experience.
With all you’re describing, you can’t suck at using computers.
Someone knowing how to use terminal is already a god to me😅
Small things like my bluetooth mouse working 100% of the time or not having to unhook/reattach my Surface Go 1 from my external screen for it to be fast again.
Although some of these things might only be linked to my hardware as it’s not happening with the same disto on my girlfriend’s MacBook Pro.
I would never buy something new from Apple as I don’t like them, but I have to admit that their hardware feels great to use. I’m not tech savvy enough to know where that would be coming from, but it makes me wonder how people could say that the components are so bad.
My girlfriend has a 2012 MacBook Pro and I put Fedora on it and it feels like such a great machine. The ram and the hard drive have been upgraded, but it feels incredible for an old machine.
If in 10 years you can get an old MacBook Pro for 200$, I might jump on it even if upgradeability has been lowered.
Finally, a good decision. I’ve nothing against touchscreens, but not for everything.
Also, generally their software is so bad. I’m using a new Skoda Kodiaq at work and its GPS is a nightmare compared to older cars.
OP should just know that TimeShift doesn’t work on Fedora Workstation without some tinkering.
Also, once your install is in a state you like, create a backup with CloneZilla.
Personnaly I can understand how it can seem difficult for not so geeky people.
It’s not difficult, but scary for normal people.
Interesting. I really hope we can grow Lemmy while not losing its identity.
Peertube is really really great.
I think what would help a lot is if creators had the ability to say you can watch x amount of videos without supporting me and then you support me through whatever platform.
It would then be really viable for creators and consumers. The creators are getting such a small amount of money from every video watched on Youtube, they would get more there.
