I don’t really love any that I’ve tried so far, but I dislike Audacious the least. FLAC, Musepack, and ReplayGain support are requirements for my library.

The last one I loved was foobar2000 on Windows, which supplanted Winamp. Linux UIs mostly feel a bit clunky by comparison. When the window has focus I like to have spacebar for pause/play, arrows up/down for primary gain, and arrows left/right for seek.

  • While we’re nitpicking, the post says multiple times that SI prefix symbols are “all uppercase except for kilo (k)”.

That’s just factually wrong. More than half of them are lowercase! There’s centi- ©, micro- (µ), nano- (n), etc. On the positive side there’s even deca- (da) and hecto- (h), though they aren’t particularly common or useful. I did at least see milli- (m) and bit (b) mentioned in a brief note though.

Obviously context matters and only the positive powers from kilo upward are relevant in computer science. But I studied chemistry and physics so I guess it irked me to see the statement repeatedly ignore all the negative powers of ten.

Overall, good rant though 😅 I’ll be more careful to use KiB and MiB from here out when appropriate.

  • That makes sense and matches what I’ve read and heard in articles and videos. That last part is problematic though.

Forgetting means peril for us all. As you say, fewer now have really learned in the first place. I’m afraid the same malice is on the rise again. Yes I’ve heard of the AFD, but there’s a more powerful and ambitious faction of fascists in the US who are arguably far more dangerous. They want to marginalize and divide people, even if it drives the country into civil war. And if they win, they won’t stop at the borders, not when the prize is enough military might to fulfill their sick dreams of terrorizing and subjugating the entire globe.

So yeah, that’s the other reason I’d like to come to Germany, to help everyone not forget, and to understand how to better share the lessons.

  • Anything illegal should be charge-worthy, official or not, just like any other office. Actively holding the title of president entities immunity only as a delay, because that role also serves as commander-in-chief for the US. Having that seat empty during a prosecution could be hugely disruptive to the executive branch and strategically unwise for geopolitics.

But once the new president takes over, there’s no longer any reason to delay the judicial process with temporary immunity.

At least, that’s how I learned it in 6th grade, midwest public school.

  • Good summary, but that’s a stupid argument (by the people making it). We already have all kinds of taxes that exist as fees for moving goods (tariffs) and even for moving money (e.g. a tax penalty if I withdraw early from my 401k).

It seems perfectly valid to have a tax/fee on moving money overseas to invest it. One might argue that’s not “fair” for some reason (e.g. if the money is taxed in the other direction too), but it’s certainly something the government has the power to do.
