Yep, more likely intentional than just a technical issue with the website.
Doesn’t need to be publicly traded to have those issues.
Smaller instances could probably be run entirely on aws free tier as well.
I’m pretty sure it actually does stand for that in lemmy.ml’s case at least.

I wouldn’t even want it restricted to the same community name, make it customizable. I’d love to be able to set up Android and FossDroid on the same feed for example. Or all the different selfhosted/homelab/datahoarders/etc. communities.
Yeah but this could be solved with a slightly more complex bot that tries to determine if a post is a question from the FAQ instead of just blocking new users.
