Eddie@l.lucitt.comto Fediverse@lemmy.world•In my opinion, having multiple accounts in different apps and instances is better than trying to combine them into the smallest amount of accountsEnglish1·2 years agoI mostly agree with this. Here’s how I use the Fediverse:
I have an account on every instance that I want to browse, while keeping my own personal instance up in the first tab. I browse multiple instances, and when it comes time to comment, I just add the post to my own instance and comment away.
I use all the other accounts as lurker accounts. That way, my identity on Lemmy is consistent but I still get to browse anything I want without worrying about everything federating properly.
Just use a cloudflare tunnel. It’s free and can be used on pretty much any network that sends and receives data.

Eddie@l.lucitt.comto Technology@beehaw.org•On this day in 2007 the iPhone was released.English1·2 years agoThe release of the iPhone and iPod touch was such a special time for me. The jailbreaking scene was just getting started and it started my life long fascination with tinkering with technology.
Eddie@l.lucitt.comto Android (locked, see pinned thread)@lemmy.world•Are you guys tired of "Material You" design?English9·2 years agoAs a UI/UX designer myself (hobbyist, to be clear), I really like it.
There seems to be this notion in the homebrew/FOSS/Linux community that “wasted space” is always non-preferable. I can see this being true for some people, but I feel like a lot of people and band wagoning this opinion.
It’s pretty universally known and accepted in the design community that padding is extremely important when it comes to helping your brain read and separate content. And to be fair, most non-tech people prefer space and padding in their applications to make things easier to understand.
I can be entirely off base here, but TLDR: I like padding and it’s literally beneficial to helping your brain understand the layout of what you’re looking at better.
Eddie@l.lucitt.comto Technology@beehaw.org•Twitter's new TikTok copycat is filled with animal cruelty videos. Elon calls content "Edgy"3·2 years agoI think you’re overthinking this. Twitter used to be a place where I could keep up with my friends. Now, it’s a place filled with many forms of hate. Because of this, I no longer wish to use it, so I left.
I personally have no care in the world for what happens with Twitter. Why should I? It becomes overrun with bigots? So what?
Remaining on a platform filled with hate is an indicator that you’re ok with that. I am not, so I left. end of story.

Eddie@l.lucitt.comto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What are things you would rather host on a VPS as opposed to a local machine?English1·2 years agoI would say this: If it’s just you accessing your server and nobody else, self-hosting is fine.
When it comes to giving other people access to your server, no matter how close of friends you may be, I would recommend renting a cheap VPS online. The security benefits are just that much better.
Eddie@l.lucitt.comOPto Self Hosted - Self-hosting your services.@lemmy.ml•What's the better choice, hosting images locally or using imgur to host your images for you?English3·2 years agoYeah, I guess when it comes down to it, if you want 100% control you have to pay for it yourself.

Eddie@l.lucitt.comto Technology@beehaw.org•I don't see how Lemmy will fill the gap of Reddit - it's resulting in fragmentationEnglish2·2 years agoI just visit the top Lemmy instances, sort by local category, and follow the ones I like on each instance. It doesn’t matter if I follow 4 different channels called !technology cause I’ll just get them all in my feed. I’m following self hosting on both lemmy.ml and lemmy.world and I get posts from both. I couldn’t care less where it comes from, as long as I’m following I’m good to go.
There are many sites and list of large Lemmy servers right now. Just check out beehaw, lemmy.ml, lemmy.world, sh.itjust.works, etc.
I love how stock android looks but agree that it’s become too iPhone like. One UI has become a great balance!
I was going to post a comment similar to this. We’ve made history here!
