Unfortunately our legal system doesn’t require the review of every law for it’s constitutionality before it gets passed. To fight the issue on constitution grounds someone would need to sue the government for violating their rights this way.

As others have said for the most part with the advent of interchangeable parts guns don’t get beyond a state of repair often. Some probably do go to landfills but they’re metal and metals tend to be one of the few materials worth recycling. Other might be parted out if their damage is isolated to a few parts.
I’m unaware of any federal law on the mater (not really their jurisdiction) and check your own local law, but probably not. If anyone has a citation otherwise I’d be interested in reading it.

I think this is a flaw in the current state of Lemmy. There’s so few posts compared to Reddit that random people will find your 3 upvoted post in all. This leads to people outside of the community dominating the discussion.
You can also see this with other communities. Everytime I see the conservative one in All it’s a non conservative OP being insulted by other non conservatives, because they assumed OP must be a conservative to post there.
There being an anti tech community won’t solve this issue. I think the most accessible solution is moderation.
