Honestly, tax weight and emissions. Emissions tax the energy put in the vehicle, and charge extra for high emissions in dense areas.
The thing that articles often miss is that HomeAssistant isn’t designed to be another protocol, it’s more like one UI wrapping up all the other protocols.
You buy different bits of kit, and so long as they’re not made my a shitty manufacturer that locks everything down, homeassistant will likely work with them all once people have had time to add support.
Matter feels a little bit doomed.
Manufacturers want to lock people into their systems.
Enthusiastic techies want devices to support the standards that are already working, and often to avoid IP where possible.
General consumers just want the device to do the thing, and will happily use the manufacturer’s lock app.
Matter sits in the middle, and somehow misses both camps.
The techies don’t like it, because it’s adding yet another standard to adhere to/break.
And the general consumers won’t even notice, they’ll just use the app the manufacturer suggests on the box.

The best kind of bike is one you can lock up and not worry about.
The amount you spend also scales with how much you want to use the device, and the quality. It’s similar with power tools.
£100 combi drill? For the average DIY user, exactly the same functionality as a £500 one.
For a tradesman using it 7 hours a day, 240 days a year, the more comfortable/reliable one may well pay for itself.

Exactly this. When you read about the metaverse in something like Snow Crash, it’s a place built by enthusiasts, very cheap to use, and people have the choice of DIY, or paying someone to do things for them.
In the facebook’s version, everything but connecting costs money, and it’s all done by facebook.
I might be tempted to use the app, except it refused to let me sign in because of something funky with my loyalty card.
Plus, I kinda like going beep beep beep with the gun.
There is another shop I refuse to use the scanner gun at, because every time you scan, a really loud acknowledgement beep emanates from somewhere in the shop. I can only assume it’s because 90% of their clientele don’t use the scanners, and they assume anyone who does is a thieving scrote who needs to have eyes on them at all times.

I just want a half decent second hand EV that will do 120 miles, for a reasonable price.
I can buy an acceptable ICE car for £5k, and it’ll do that.
But at that price range, the only BEVs can get are shagged leafs that will do 50 miles on a good day.
The really annoying thing, is that 95% of my journeys are sub 50 miles. But I’m not willing to spend more than half the journey time charging midway through.
