I’m an older GenZ born in the late 90s and I’ve had to show a few younger peers how to torrent recently.

The idea of you needing a “special” program just for downloading a file seems to throw some of them off.

I do know a few young people are tech/programming wizards but “generally tech savy” people seem to be declining. It’s either you’re really into it or barely know anything outside popular apps.

One other thing I’ve noticed, People just seem to be more paranoid about downloading stuff not already installed on their devices. Which its good people give at least a bit of a shit about security but convincing people Firefox isn’t a virus gets a bit annoying (Yes I’ve had that conversation).

I don’t even have an OLED display for my desktop and I’ve still preferred pure black background for the longest time.

I’m glad dark mode is a standard unlike 10+ years ago when you had to hack it in yourself most of the time. But Ui designers just seemed to be afraid of trying anything outside the standards Google/Apple etc put in place.

Just recently started using Avalon, Before that I was just using a Windows 7 icon pack because I really hate flat themes.

Glad to see some non-flat themes starting to spring up again.

I haven’t booted into my windows 10 drive in months, I fear the amount of updates it will force apon me if I accidentally do.

Outside of the whole compiling from source thing, What are selling points of Gentoo over Arch?

Seems most Gentoo users I’ve ran into are either diehards about compiling their own packages or they’ve simply used it for over a decade and are super familiar with it.

I use Firefox with Ublock on both my PC and Phone and haven’t had to deal with ads in years, PiHole just seems like a lot of hassle without much more benefit.

The first distro I tried to daily drive on my desktop was Pop!_OS because everyone told me it’s the distro you “need” if you have an Nvidia card.

I’m sure it works fine for most people but I just had A LOT of issue, weird audio issues I had to fix every other time I turned on my system, some games refusing to load properly unless I forced them into borderless fullscreen.

Then one day it just refused to boot, even tho I had booted into it that morning and did nothing more than go on Youtube for an hour before work, Timeshift didn’t work even tho I had manually made a handful of backups.

Went back to Windows for about 2 months before trying EndeavourOS and despite peoples warning that Arch systems will break if you look at them the wrong way, I’ve found it way more stable on my system and any issues I have ran into have been easy fixes.

I have pirated stuff I know I own because the pirated copy was better quality than what I actually paid for.

I’ve own GTA 4 on Steam for years but recently sort out a cracked copy because I keep having issues with Rockstars shitty DRM and them removing songs from the radio in updates.

You want buttons back because they’re easier to use

I want them back because I think car interiors look bland without them

Honestly the AUR is the main thing stopping me from distro hopping…that and laziness

If I’m not mistaken it’s not that Steam will just completely cease to function on that date, Just they won’t be fixing any bugs related to Windows7/8 from that point on.

You should be able to get the old logo back in neofetch atleast by editing

You can actually set it to any logo regardless of what distro you’re on

Just because I’m gay doesn’t mean I use Linux…no wait, Just because I use Linux doesn’t make me…well I am gay but…dammit!

I’m still pretty new to Linux so I’m finding new stuff all the time, I’ve been very happy with EndeavourOS but I am planning to switch to vanilla Arch when Plasma 6 fully drops. There are other distros that have caught my attention, they’re just abit beyond my skill level currently.

Only thing I’m really hoping for is improvements to Nvidia (Yes I will buy AMD next time I get the chance, I built this PC before I had any intention of using Linux)

Gonna guess it’s just a carry over from Reddit, Even if it doesn’t contribute anything to your account people will still do it because the option is there and it’s a habit they built.

Honestly not fully sure how the points system worked on Reddit either.

I haven’t personally used Manjaro but I’ve been daily driving EndeavourOS with KDE for a few months and it’s been rock solid.

Like Manjaro it’s also Arch based but still uses the vanilla Arch repos, Basically it’s just Arch for lazy people (like me).

As a KDE fanboy I will agree, I installed regular Ubuntu on an old Surface tablet and the touch interface is better than most Android tablets I’ve used

Old Thinkpads running Arch are basically the new Blåhaj

And I’m all for it!
