Same issue as Lemmy. Not enough people see centralized media as an issue and thus the status quo will continue.

Not all of humanity or we would not even be here.
How do you get to the decentralized place then as those in power will never let go. Perhaps if we the people embraced decentralized alternatives, it would start to tips the scales and bring more balance but it seems like we need more suffering first.
I moved to Vietnam and thus I am confused about Communism. Seems to me that the state described in the wiki is the same end goal so have read about, but it just seems like we do not get there as humans with power do not want to let go even if the intentions are good. Like BluSky. They have a great vision and idea that reminds me of communism. First you have to have centralize to coordinate the decentralization…and then it never happens. It is why I really believe this only way to keep centralization in check is decentralization to balance the equation.
Thanks for the reply. I am not understanding. What is the modern definition of communism then? Are you saying it is really about Socialism?
What fact is incorrect?
Just that good intentions to become decentralized do not work. Not saying capitalism is better as they are two sides of the same centralized coin.
I would agree. Both Capitalism and Communism are two sides of the centralized coin.
That is ok. I have never had an issue sharing facts that may trigger some. In fact the only reason it triggers some is it hits somewhere deep.
Bluesky is like a mini example of why Communism and Capitalism does not work. Centralization is a drug.
Editing to explain as some did not make the connection. This is a comment about centralization that even when a system has the best intentions like communism and in this case Blusky, centralization still will lead to corruption as anything centralized is ripe for takeover as power is a drug.
What do you believe the danger is?
When I say thank you, I am actually thanking the entity of AI, the tech, the people behind the tech, and all of humanity for the knowledge that makes it worthwhile.
Agreed. A lot of people who think Communism is the answer to Capitalism fail to recognize that both are just different sides of the same centralization coin. Sure the utopian vision of Communism is decentralized governance, but the minute there is one party with all the power, even with the intention of going full decentralization one day, never do. Why? Same reason as Capitalism…centralized power is a drug that humans cannot let go of. Communism is just what every capitalist wishes they had…complete control.
The tech needs to be decentralized like Bitcoin. Bitcoin is untouchable as it is just so decentralized. You can go after nodes and miners, but you would have to go after all of them to take down any of its content. It is very resilient and social media could go the same way but people have to want it first.
If it was truly decentralized it would be like Bitcoin that has not been brought down by any government or organization yet they sure have tried.
Centralization is going to do what centralization does best.
Funny as I got downvoted to oblivion for saying Bluesky was not really decentralized.
Ahahaha. Missed that detail, but it could be 19, 29, 39, 49, 59, 69…well maybe not 69+.
Someone did not know that alcohol makes you soft.
That is a very good point and is something that needs to be sorted out. There is or at least was a video platform that paid crypto that I think had the right ideas, but was not well executed and frankly even if it was great, most crypto projects were scams.
I do suspect that as we make our way more into the AI and robotics era, that how we measure value will shift and suddenly decentralized platforms will generate some form of income of it will even be called that. Until then, you are right, there is little incentive for creators to move to a platform that makes them no money and people are ok with their privacy and data being shared so the status quo it is.
