I realized that I was selling myself a story based on a fantasy. FDR and Kennedy sold us on a dream, but the truth is that the US is and has been ruthless, racist, and a bit fascist since its inception. What I see is the developer who’s left after multiple rounds of cost cutting layoffs and subsequent exodus of anyone qualified, that knows they are only there because they are willing to work for the least amount of money, and are willing to endure abuse from their sadistic manager, not knowing how to systematically debug the mountain of accumulated issues, and keeps trying random stuff hoping that anything will somehow work.

Christ almighty, this is perfect. Literally my life for the past twenty years, except the I start by assuming they did something dumb, so I would have checked the lid first. Then promptly they spill it unto their lap and I have to clean it.

There is currently chaos in my house. I played this on my phone without headphones and my dogs have absolutely lost their shit. The Miniature Pinscher, being a Miniature Pinscher, was barking and spinning and occasionally attacking his spaniel brother who just has this “WTF BRO” face of horror on. Mayhem.

Yep. It is another reason I overtip in cash. If this person is desperate enough to grab a “no tip” order, they probably need the $20 tip on a $36 order more than most.

I did this in 2003. I designed a new server room for a company and had to transition their servers from the zero cable management abomination they previously had to my over engineered fishbowl. To get the servers off the racks I literally had to take garden shears and cut the cables. The pile was a few feet high and I sat on it like a throne because no sane person would pass on that opportunity.

What I do:

$0 tip

In the special instructions: “Ring doorbell for cash tip. Do not just leave at door”.

Traffic in my area is awful so I always tip $20 no matter the order. Sometimes that comes to almost an 80% tip but a) I know it goes to the driver, b) I don’t have to drive in that shitshow, and c) I reward a driver for actually reading the special instructions.
