I have a pair of LaserJet 2200dn printers, they work absolutely fine in any Linux distro but I just have to make sure to use the below driver in my case:
HP LaserJet 2200 Foomatic/lj4dith (grayscale, 2-sided printing)
If I use the default or hpcups drivers it takes fucking forever (over an hour!) to process the pages. Essentially if given the option go for the lj4dith driver for your LaserJet

Yeah, I’ll even go as far as to say that because F-Droid apps are usually not for profit you get actually good apps without ads or trying to sell you anything.
They’re just an app that some dude found they needed and developed, and then made available for everyone else.
This is the most jarring difference I find when I go to the App Store, so a FOSS repository for iOS would be so huge.
It’s actually astonishing to me how much better Linux deals with updates compared to macOS and Windows. “Oh, updates are installed, and you just need to restart whatever I updated if it’s currently running.”
Sometimes it does have its moments though, like when it updates some core package and changes its config in such a way that the next boot doesn’t go into a GUI, but I think it’s also fair to point out Windows has had those too. And macOS High Sierra with the performance and security issues it initially had on release won’t go unmentioned by me either.
True, but that 10 years is irrelevant when you consider the other factors at play here, such as the enforced minimum requirements for Windows 11 and the relatively short time for users to migrate, especially compared to previously with Microsoft. Windows 10 came out in 2015, and users had until 2023 (8 years) to migrate from Windows 8, and until 2019 (4 years) to migrate from Windows 7.

At work I’ve been trying to use the new Outlook but the biggest gripe (other than this new news) is that it’s once again, a fucking Electron app and a lot of features have been cut.
I work at an MSP and people have mistakenly changed to the new Outlook, and then find things like their local mail rules stop working (because it doesn’t support those anymore), their custom accounting software that would compose an email in Outlook straight up won’t do that with new Outlook, for businesses it’s going to wreak havoc if Microsoft just force updates everyone.
It’s probably not necessarily aimed at you, but for some seen as the straw that broke the camels back because they’re overexposed to the subject and have had enough.
That being said, it’s hard to see that if you’re literally commenting on a Linux thread.
I think this is ultimately Microsoft being irresponsible, because most people will either stick with the then insecure Windows 10, or just buy a new device that can take Windows 11. Most would rather do either of those than install Linux, if they even know about Linux at all.

Installing Linux for us nerds is just something we know how to do. Asking a computer “normie” (which is, basically everyone else) to change their operating system is just not happening.
I couldn’t imagine trying to step my mum through installing Linux if I stood next to her, and I wouldn’t class her as stupid.
I maintain that for Linux to obtain mass adoption it either needs to be preinstalled or make it no different to install than a regular Windows program (which is damn near impossible).
It does, but it’s no longer receiving security updates and therefore if there’s any vulnerabilities, especially critical ones, they will not be patched.
If it remains offline you shouldn’t really have much of a problem but it’s advised that you move to a more modern OS sooner rather than later if that’s online.
It’s one of the only installers that seems to take the longest compatatively and (afaik) doesn’t really let you leave it unaftended. Most other distros let you just set everything first then go, but Debian does that and then asks you what DE and other questions mid install…
