Not to mention Dell’s atrocious customer service…
I’m not buying a Dell again, no matter how cool the design is.

Manjaro made me lose some hairs in frustration… Not for me.
Either software or hardware failure of the big infotainment system can suck really badly, and TESLA is also an anti-repair company too…
Not all functionalities. You can’t even adjust the direction/power of the AC or open the glovebox without multiple presses on the touchscreen.
I’m very glad, the lack of buttons are a safety hazard… Looking at these stupid TESLA cars especially… You can’t even adjust the AC without messing with the touchscreen, which means your eyes are not on the road…
Still not going to own a car, but at least it will be slightly safer by bringing back physical buttons, so hurray for small victories.
Now I feel tempted to make a Dropbox account and fill it with gigabytes of noise data…
What if the genie takes it as “this mortal shouldn’t be constraint by their moral guidelines, but should use my sensibilities instead…”
If you’ve got an evil genie, this would suck… But a more benign genie might think that it would be the best if you got a whole lot of figs as your wish, because that genie loves figs.
Linux ≠ Linux Desktop
I’m aware, I was just explaining my experience back in 2007. It was like moving to a new country where things work differently and the attitude needed was very different from what I am used to.
Like I said, at the time I didn’t even know what open source meant and assumed that Linux is a product, and Ubuntu was the company that made it. I know better now, but back then I just saw it as a “replace Windows without spending money”. Also I was a teenager, and I would have pirated anything back then without a second thought even if it weren’t free.
Also, since Linux is so widely used by corporations, they fund its development, so I prefer to donate the small amounts of money I can to smaller projects.
I wasn’t satisfied with Windows Vista, but didn’t want to be forever stuck with XP, wasn’t going to buy a Mac because I didn’t want to spend a lot of money when I had a reasonable computer already… Found out about Linux and tried it. Funnily enough, I had used it for almost a year without actually knowing what open source meant, or what source is… I just saw it as “Ubuntu is free and isn’t Windows”.
I know this ain’t happening, but I feel like this sort of thing should be regulated on a federal level. Like requiring any company selling fossil fuels to pay for these sorts of things to account for these. If the original well owners are dead/bankrupt, we will need to find a better solution.
This will become even more important once renewable energy becomes ubiquitous, and the demand for oil is drastically reduced, we will have a large amount of wells abandoned.
Translators have gotten good enough so this should no longer be an issue, especially for a popular language like Spanish…
I don’t actually remember the official name for these…
I honestly don’t get Elon’s obsession with X. First it was his thing with x.com and PayPal, then it was SpaceX, then he called his son X, then Twitter…
No wonder his wife became his X wife.
Librera is the one I’d recommend if you care about customisation, and it also has TTS (Text To Speech), which is why I use it almost exclusively.
Myne is a beautiful and minimalistic app that lets you read books from the Gutenberg project. I have asked the developer, and they have no intention to add TTS functionality to the app.
Shosetsu is the best app for fanfiction (AO3 extension) and lightnovels. It recently got a TTS feature as well, but that feature is not very usable in its current implementation.
Yes, people do amazing things with Blender, and the customisability allows creators to make it fit their workflow and their usage perfectly. Look at Dillongoo and his Goo Engine, which is their custom build of Blender and the insane production quality they are making with this tool.
I had no idea… I would have assumed it was related to rice somehow, like the people who paint on rice grains.
I’m out of the loop and still new to Lemmy, what happened?
Haven’t checked on FreeCAD in a while. Gonna check it out.
