To be honest I absolutely hate everything being a browser app.

Yeah man. What the hell!? Just going and making a nice app that works well.
What an ass.
That makes more sense than my initial take for sure.
Oof. They got me.
I guess my congrats go to you.
Of the many grievous faults of Windows to pick on, file system permissions like this are not one.
As admin you have permission to change ownership and override permissions. And a relic copy of the OS folder is going to have some of the most restrictive permissions possible.
I would expect similar behaviour on any modern OS.
Re-watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer with my kids in new hi-def, and you can clearly and easily see the stunt doubles now, and the SFX look really dated now that you can see them clearly.
It’s amazing what old CRTs would let you get away with.
Pepsi, Coke, or Budget no-name cola? Windows, MacOS, or Linux? Sometimes it’s a personal preference.
I like the UX of Sync. I’ve made QOL feature requests in the past and they’ve been implemented. For an early beta, it’s extremely well polished. I can afford to support the developer for a quality app, so I do.
I can certainly see the merits of each app, and have used a few of them. I just prefer Sync.
But that’s me. It should have no bearing on what you or anyone else uses.
Confirmed.
Big Sync fan here, because LJDawson actually listens to user feedback and implements good ideas.
Personally I’m a Sync Ultra subscriber because I value paying for the support and extra features, and don’t mind compensating the app maker for making my Lemmy UX experience familiar and enjoyable.
However, and this is important, do not feel pressured to use an app because it is popular if something does not appeal to you (like the pricing, or paying to remove ads, for example). There are plenty of apps that are free or significantly cheaper, that remain ad free. All of them have merits.
Sync users alone can’t fill the fediverse with the content that is required. We’d be extremely stupid to think we were anything more than just another fediverse user. Everyone’s contribution is equally important.
Do it your way, or it’s just another Reddit.
Since when is Sync claiming to be FOSS?
I was subbed, and used it by browser a bit.
But Sync feels like home. And once more I’m enthused about using a platform.
Threads never stood a chance with me. I closed down and deleted my Facebook/insta accounts ages ago. All they have is my ghost profile. Reddit app and site are ass on mobile, which is the main device profile I use for social media.
Syncforlemmy has 12.8k subscribers.
Loads of them were poised ready to strike once the beta launched.
I’m actually finding the experience in Chrome browser to be pretty good.
Definately waiting on Sync though.
Nice. Second (whatever we call subs/channels in lemmy) signed up for.
Going to go straight for max pro bleeding edge beta demo for life version, rather than wait as long as I did with Sync.
Looking forward to pop-out subscription nav, floating action buttons, and ultra compact style options, and whatever other QOL improvements you have planned @ljdawson@lemmy.world
Back to the high seas it is.
I’m not paying for 5 streaming services to watch 1 show on each. So now I’m paying for no streaming services.
Convenience as a reasonable price was the deal. It it neither convenient nor reasonably priced any more.
Cable TV all over again. Region locked DVD all over again.
