I don’t see how the term “Alchemy” is any different than “Transubstantiation”, and the Catholic Church seems pretty down with that.
Imagine living your entire life with this kind of fear. Religion does crazy things to people’s minds.
I did read it - what I meant is that I think the author of the article was mistaken.
The view-state sync feature and all the social stuff is def opt-in though. Of course they made it super easy to do the opt-in, they want to push that feature, but I remember I did have to actively choose both of those things after the update.
Obviously I don’t really want my “friends” getting weekly emails about what I’m watching, but I don’t know — If I were self-hosting my own porn, maybe I’d take 5 extra seconds to read the screen that says stuff about sharing activity.
Paywalled article.
Oh you mean Loab?
I think I’d prefer if they didn’t, tbh. I really enjoy seeing the actors transform into the character they’re portraying without looking exactly like them. I understand the appeal of immersion, but it would kind of rob the film of having its own character.
For those that aren’t yet aware: the trade off with the technology behind eliminating bot-detection here comes with a huge compromise. That trade off is that Big Tech companies need to basically certify that your device is capable and valid in order to access a website. “They” can decide at any moment to deny you access to sites that you request, which is a massive detriment to the free and open web. It’s one step below a censored internet and it’s already started rolling out in Safari.
If an internet giant like Cloudflare has already implemented and adopted this, there won’t be a lot that individual web developers can do unless this gets shot down as anti-competitive behavior (which it is). The alternative is not using CDNs and paying for servers and storage to self-host content, which will be prohibitively expensive for smaller businesses or individual hobbyists.
Has anybody here used this? I’m intrigued.
Well when you put it that way…
I mean objectively the language has fundamental problems. I don’t think anybody would fight you on that, but all programming languages have quirks. Modern JS definitely isn’t as bad as the frequency of the joke warrants. And if the demographic of this community is anything like the other site, it’s largely comprised of 1st and 2nd year CS Students who have only ever written in whatever language their curriculum teaches (Python or Java).
Can we please not bring the “JS bad” humor here please? That joke is so tired.
Rockstar should absolutely just hire this kid as a whitehat instead.
