  • It’s okay, many of them will learn when the fascists turn on empathetic people like them, people like their LGBTQIA+ friends, and an ever more purity-shifting test stupider than a swatch of paint held to their faces.

Because people (maybe some like you?) don’t explain nuance and responsibility to them, just throw blame around and make noises about where all of the fault lays (it’s never also on your–metaphorical you, I hope–laps is it?) and why this agenda is better and would not lead to this or that.

You don’t need to address me if you prefer of course. I don’t actually foresee any useful dialogue here so just yelling at two-faced clouds.

  • I agree with you 100% but boy howdy, you’re, bluntly, a terrible communicator this morning. Just dropping here arguing with your own demons. Neither you nor the other person are on the same topic. They’re only seeing up to the election.

You’re rightly looking further and calling for people to hold the fire under their Representatives so the shittery and evil can be burned out of them, specially as the fire is turned up as time goes on, not lowered.

That makes the world a better place, but no one hears your message when you call them spineless cynics for their ignorance (of your point, the only thing you have in evidence).

Seriously, read yours and their responses again. They’re looking at the base of the hill and arguing. You’re looking at the horizon and arguing something else. Maybe direct their gaze to the goal instead alongside the crushing of all their held opinions?

  • Absolutely. You’re forced through a slower burn in the books that is hard to appreciate until you’re many more books down.

The show packed in the political intrigue and other elements earlier because it better fit the format, whereas on the books you first go through Holden and Miller’s PoV and throughout their different perceptions get introduced to the setting.

Then the 2nd and 3rd books bring in a deeper view of those other political points of view. It then pats you for now having all of the info you need.

Then it straps you into a jump seat and hits the juice with a few random stops and sudden decelerations before boosting off again for the remainder of the 8 books and novellas.

  • I’ll be honest. I want to believe in the Fediverse and Lemmy, really really hard.

It’s ideals (rather, the gestalt of the best of what everyone says is the best of Federation) appeals strongly.

But sometimes, it’s instance after instance of complaining about this or that. Double points when it’s all reddit complaining.

I dunno if being a heavy content creator necessitates an air of misguided superiority but there’s no more nuance here than anywhere else, and the content can’t seem to form precisely because everyone decides to take their toys away and do their own thing at the smallest provocation.

I don’t use them on my phone because fuck their app, but I’ve found no choice but to join up with an alias and as much extensions to make their job harder as Firefox allows, just to have genuine discussions on hyper specific topics from a PC.

  • You are—tragically—100% percent correct in my opinion. That is as I also see, the reality we live in. The shortsighted Neoliberal imbéciles would choke to death on a dollar if they had to eat their way to a penny.

    However.

Even though things will, to heavily understate, suck, I’d urge you to not fully give in to despair. Last time Fascism rose, it bit them in the ass and they backed the other horse eventually.

I am not looking forward to dodging (or liquidating) brown shirts and Nazis, so if we can avoid that and just be poised for when climate catastrophe puts on the knife-edge of “this has never happened before” that would be great.

Those with thoughts like yours will be needed. The Resistance will need leaders and scholars to delineate the purpose.

Reality sucks and we shouldn’t have to fight for it because of thousands of greedy piggies, but it’s manifesting and we’ll have to decide.

We need to vote. We should all vote. Then start working on what we need beyond that in what little steps we all can. The literal morning after the election, preferably.

  • Boo, the audience was enjoying the illusion of intellectual discourse you were laying and how deftly it was peeled back!

Why did you give up so soon and play the hypocrisy of the “Good faith” card? You could have continued helping the cause of leftism by continuing to be the perfect verbal sparring dummy. The think tank needs new material mate.

  • They included that in their reply:

ClearChannel (and therefore iHeart) sells advertising enmasse so that messages and products can be pushed the largest groups. They hype up the music festival like its a great big deal, and then they give away tickets.

Basically, the bands and holding the event are cheap (the bands selected are not in high demand and thus cheap booking) in comparison with the profits of hosting a subliminal ad show with a (happily) captured audience.

Note that this is my interpretation of the other poster’s message I thought I’d chime in with, I have no first or even second hand knowledge on this topic.

  • In my (only partially humorous) opinion: French snobbiness is displayed the most strongest upon the French language.

It is the least mutually intelligible of the mainstream Romance languages with any of the others. By design.

The notions of purity and ripping off Latin- words, expressions, and structures in the 17th century that lead to the Académie Française formalized things. But France’s geography and history also pushed the language into it’s own harder than the others.
