I tried being a moderator on a forum once, and after alerting admins and the FBI about csam less than a week in, I decided I was done being a moderator.

It was a forum for RC stuff, mostly diy rc planes.

Unfortunately, therapy only helps you cope, it doesn’t let you forget.

Even IF we are ALLOWED to vote next year and beyond, and IF we manage to pull our heads out of our asses, we will be fixing this mistake for decades.

And if we aren’t allowed to vote… Well, I hope we remember the cure for fascism soon. Actually strike that, it implies I’m willing to wait 1-3 years to find out, I want the people to remember the cure now.

I can only imagine what bullshit I’m going to hear over the next few years about why the US isn’t doing well but the EU and Canada are.

I’ve had more conversations than I can count with people I would never be able to talk to in person, all using our own native languages.

The original posts are in English, people comment in their native language, and I use a translator, then respond in my own language. Is the translator perfect? No! Neither is theirs.

With the way most translators I’ve used work, it’s easier for the non-native speaker to try translating, since the translator might try and use different words that entirely change the meaning, but likely list possible alternatives. A native e speaker will understand the alternatives while a non-native speaker probably won’t.

That’s my thought process anyway.

Never had anyone who wasn’t pearl-clutching or virtue-signaling complain about it. And I’ve had tons of conversations with people I’d never have talked to otherwise.

See, he ASSUMES there’s “no way to win” and that this judge will always, regardless of anything else, strike down things because they’re “against republicans/trump/whoever”

Why?

Because that’s exactly what they would do, are doing, plan to do in the future, and can’t imagine a world where someone else isn’t just as shitty as they are.

I mean, there’s no way to win, but that’s because this is one of those things that can’t be ignored and absolutely should result in consequences. I’m not hopeful that real consequences will be had though.

Nothing says “we are a free and open community that welcomes others” like moderators banning discussion of poor moderation.

A few years ago I purged my face book profile with a script that edited every post with lorem ipsum, and then deleted the content.

I can’t imagine someone in the firing squad trying to say “I was just doing my job”, it’s not the same thing as the guy working in the lunchroom. The only difference in my opinion is the firing squad kills people and the guy at the computer kills information, democracy, morality, common sense etc…

Beware that Nvidia cards have driver issues, they’re fixable but if you do have an Nvidia card, I’d just use the built in graphics chip for trying out Linux at first.

I know just enough about Linux to know I should have been getting into it when I graduated over a decade ago.

I also know just enough to know it can do pretty much everything I need, as long as I’m willing to switch to a Linux alternative with similar capabilities.

However, I am Linux-dumb and deeply set into my windows, to the point where I’m not sure I have the technical savvy to switch.

From my understanding, Linux works very well, as long as you know what you’re doing.

I’m sure I’m overestimating the learning curve but it’s still intimidating.

Rule of law means nothing in the US anymore unless you’re poor. If it mattered, we would have had different presidential candidates from the start.

If anyone still cares in the government, none of them care enough to actually do anything but stand by and watch. Maybe give a half-hearted “yeah way to take a stand” after the fact when someone gets dragged out of the room by the fascists.

We used to know how to fight dictators and fascism, but apparently all we can do now is protest, quietly, in our government mandated protest spot, miles away from anyone who can hear or see us. Anything else just wouldn’t be proper.
