At this point it’s such a routine thing for him and/or his cult to say/do something absurd that it becomes a part of the ambiant noise. People can only tolerate being outraged for so long before it gets to a 'just tell me when it’s over" state of self preservation. The problem of course is that putting it out of mind could well be the thing that loses self preservation to the rabbid masses swallowing his rhetoric.
The rules only get applied to those under the people making them. Back when I started my job there where similar admonishments about accepting vendor gifts and such. My role involved classifying sites to allow access at the behest of clients, one which came from an executive assistant to allow a vendor to take said exec to the Superbowl.
Rules where subsequently tighened/reenforced so maybe that wouldn’t happen today. The scoutus has continued to resist any sort of oversight claiming sufficient self governance for similar reasons though. Their own judgement is the only one valid in their opinion.
I could maybe get the fee if it was a small place just passing on the presumed credit card charge that goes with ordering online IF they provided a discount for paying cash. A lot of small shops around here do that because the extra 3% or so paid to a bank makes it that much harder to keep prices anywhere near the Walmarts and such.

Open VPN has a knack for taking out a big part of the throughput. My 1gb gets knocked down to somewhere in the 300 space. Wireguard has more performance but more of a trick to set up, and if the ISP is feeling obnoxious is a lot easier to isolate and block than OVPN.
Loading them up on a bunch of HFCS from those Iowa corn fields will be great for them though I’m sure…
Anything that can can provide storage attached to the network is a potential NAS. It doesn’t take a lot of power to just offer and store files. If you start getting into stuff like live transcoding or heavy encrypt/decrypt that’s a bit different matter.
Just the kill-a-watt plug that the main power block is attached to. The servers have stats visible via the IDRAC (R730XD & R820) to break out for those, but nothing that shows a dashboard or such.
Currently 3 physical boxes down from 4 and aiming for 2. It pretty well comes down to a hypervisor and a NAS and the regular aux gear like a switch and modem. They’re big boxes though with about 35 TB storage, .5 TB RAM, and 72 cores between them so lots of space to make imaginary computers in.
Right now my goal is reducing the power footprint. Kill-a-watt places the whole set at 650 watts today and I should knock about 150 off when I get the other box virtualized.
A once useful software friendly to the open source/home lab community that got lured off trying to chase the fabled enterprise customer’s riches, only to collapse under their own hubris. Always sad to see it happen.
Fuzzy space (not that one), a lot of places it might get squished into the enabling/promoting deliqancy type rules. If you give beer/smokes to an underage kid you can be tagged for it.
On a practical level proving any of the above is near impossible, but it might get you on the local’s radar if it keeps being accused.
I do think we have it backwards in America where prime time crime drama is no problem but everyone freaks out over a butt cheek, but at the same time it’s not healthy to let little kids dig into some things unguided and before they’re ready.
The question of the 14th would certainly be in the realm of the scouts, but what I’d wonder is can they actually DO anything. Even if they said ‘nah, that Jan 6th thing totally doesn’t DQ him’ I don’t see how they force the state to reverse course since each state runs their own elections and sends their own electors to the national convention.
Not a lawyer here, but I’m not sure the scouts even could do anything here. The states and their own election mechanics, to the best of my knowledge, are independent of the federal government to the extent that a given state could put whoever they want on the ballot.
If that’s the case though, I have to wonder what stops them from simply putting their chosen winner as the only candidate on the general election ballot, other than the inevitable storm of lawsuits.

A part of the problem with the ‘get through 24’ thought line is that Trump and the circus surrounding him has morphed into something that’s functionally it’s own entity with a R painted on it for convenience. That whole branch of the political tree has become some sort of monstrosity that the few remaining normal-ish conservatives fear to cross lest they become a target just like everyone else who’s an ‘other’.
Not sure specifically about Amazon but there’s always the hole between the video cord and the monitor where output is unencrypted. Do these movies not have a purchase and download or DVD option out there?
Interesting idea, a DNS filter won’t do much for traffic pointed at a specific IP though. Curious how that would set the system wide DNS without being a root level app.
Bit where would they put the heat that they pulled out of the now cooled room? If it’s hotter on the ‘outside’ of the AC than the coils of the condenser then it has no way to shed that energy…
I think we need a hell’s energy adjustment taskforce (HEAT) to address this issue. Perhaps offering free heat pumps to the surface dwellers would be a start and make for a good PR move.
I’m actually surprised we don’t have more in the way of e-voting somehow. We file countless sensitive docs online each day including tax returns, and outside of the occasional technical glitches we don’t hear of massive complaints of fraud the way people go on about it with elections regardless of in person or by mail. Yeah, putting it all online has its risks, but it shouldn’t be impossible.
They did make a brief mention of Mastodon, but like a lot of places made it sound a lot more confusing than it is.
Are there any well maintained indexes out there where you could put in a few check boxes of interests and it spits out an instance to join in fedi space yet?
