I’m 60 now and am literally a Boomer; fast food has definitely gotten worse. Especially in the last 10 years or so. The foods and processes have been tweaked and tuned to the point that the value of the food hovers just barely above the price and not a tick more.

Health concerns also play a role. McDonald’s fries are a good example. When I was young they were cooked in beef tallow and they were so good they would roll your eyes back in your head in in ecstacy (not kidding). They switched to vegetable oil due to health concerns over saturated fats and they’ve just never been the same.

I’ve been saying for a year now, generative AI is going to foster a resurgence in stage theater. When movies are all 100% AI with no humans in them, we’ll want to see humans act. That and “organic” movie labels.

My disillusionment with the Republicans began in earnest when the GOP nominated McCain to go up against Obama in 2008. There was no way an old, white-haired man was going to win against the young and savy Obama. It was just McCain’s turn to give it a go.

Don’t get me wrong, in hindsight I’m glad that Obama won, the United States needed his Presidency and he did a good job after a bumpy two or three years.

But Mitt Romney was a better pick than McCain, and to this day I think he would have made a good President. His denouncing Trump on his way out bolsters that opinion.

Level-headed Republicans are dead now (many literally so).

I, myself, am a lifelong Republican that left the party when Trump became the nominee. He was so clearly and obviously self-serving, stupid and disgusting that I could not, and still cannot, imagine why anyone would vote for him or want him as their leader. And yet I watched Fox News praise his bumbling, rambling debates with Hillary Clinton and stood dumbfounded as to how we could have seen the same performance.

When Trump got the nomination I was simply done. Something flipped in my mind; Joe Biden became the first Democrat that I’d ever voted for since having first voted for Ronald Reagan in 1984 at the age of 20.

However, I was and am socially liberal. I have always been pro-abortion, pro-legalization, pro self. Technically i was more of a small-L conservative libertarian, but my Voter ID card says Republican. I’ve read all of Ayn Rand’s books. I have a signed first edition hardback of Atlas Shrugged: a birthday gift from my mother.

I will vote for Biden again, although with reservations about voting for someone who will be 82 at the beginning of their term and with no desire to experience a President Harris. Although doing so here in Oklahoma is pointless other than to show other Oklahomans that it can be done. It’s a very red state that isn’t likely to flip anytime soon.

I use NextDNS and it’s good for my devices, but Google sponsored links won’t work with it. Sometimes I have to turn it off temporarily to get something done.

Also, my wife works from home in social media. I can’t really block ads network-wide because she needs to see them.

Anecdotally, the odds are near zero that my wife and I can talk once about maybe buying some obscure thing like electric blinds and suddenly targetted ads for them somehow pop up on our devices.

This happens a lot.

I think you’re being naive if you believe they don’t locally distill our discussions into key words and phrases and transmit those.

Reminds me of the guy who paid a million dollars for unlimited American Airlines flights for life. He racked up millions of miles and dollars in flights so they eventually found a way to cancel his service.

With the announcement of Gemini you have to think Bard’s days are numbered.

The employee didn’t put it there, but they sure do whip that thing around to let you use it fast enough though.

I bought beer last time I went through self checkout and of course it called some teenage girl over to check my ID; I’m pushing 60. I just said “No. I’m old enough to be your grandfather.” She was fine with that.
