This isn’t selfhosted but you can use uptime robot. They can send regular http get requests or ping an IP or URL, the free tier can have like 10 monitors I think? I receive an email when an host isn’t available, in 5 minutes usually.

I know someone that remapped their keyboard to have ;hjkl instead of hjkl; (this is a split keyboard running qmk). This way they could keep hjkl and not remap anything inside (neo)vim.

Well that’s a bit of both: I need to be able to get on my server from work (with my phone… Yeah not great but that works), because I often break stuff haha ; also a nice thing to have when I’m on the bus and want to add more music or movies to listen to during the travel!

No, this doesn’t remove the need to stay up to date.

However, it works on my server and was very easy to setup: a few ufw rules so that port 22 is blocked everywhere, allowed only on the VPN IP range and my local network range. Nmapping from outside does not show port 22 accessible, and indeed you can’t SSH to it without the VPN.

Security is quite tough to get right eh? I tried my best to harden everything opening ports on my server, having a fail2ban, VPN for maintenance, webserver to expose some personal services…

One could setup a VPN and expose the SSH port to the VPN network only. It think tailscale operates this way?

I use them too! My phone usually fast charge at 30W, but with the magnetic cable it is capped at 5W (thanks God). I’ve seen drastic improvement in term of battery life because it charges slower and do not stress the battery as much as at 30W

Fyi the devs aren’t reading this (and probably won’t be before long, since they are busy just coding a lot of features). Best place to ask for this is on the issue tracker (first check if it hasn’t been asked before), even better implement it yourself if you can!

I use bitwarden for many services, but have aegis for importants services (eg. work ones, bitwarden because I don’t want to have 2fa for it locked away).

I don’t know, I’m an open source dev too, but my time is valuable and I can’t (and won’t) just work for free on dozens of bug reports from a user that don’t want to investigate first by themselves.

Yeah open source is great, but if you want support you have look at the code and read the damn documentation first ; I lost a lot of time just directing users to docs because they can’t read.
