From what I’ve gathered from my recent experience of running tasks, the project might have started years ago, but they are still offering tasks to be completed.

If you don’t learn from others’ mistakes, you are bound to make the same mistakes yourself.
PSA: Trailers are made to look amazing. The actual gameplay is the most important content when judging if a game is worth following. But even gameplay can and has been removed or changed before a videogame is released. But most importantly…
DO NOT BUY PRE-ORDERS OR FIRST DAY BUYS!! The videogame industry has shown time and time again that they “will have to patch the game AFTER the game release, to actually make it a full and functional videogame” Give it time. You might just save yourself a headache and the loss of $40-$70.
And this is exactly why OG Blizzard (WarCraft 1 (1994) to StarCraft 2 (2010)) was so beloved. They saw that they could stand to make games that lasted well past their 1 - 2 years after launch, in making them money long term.
Blizzard Entertainment leaders were often quoted as saying, “It’s ready when it’s ready.”, and “We won’t release it until it meets our standards.” Hell… it even became a meme that they would be asked when a game would be coming out, and they would just reply with “Soon.”
25·1 year agoIIRC: They battled this talking point/discussion and legislation for years. Up until a week before it was voted on and passed.

I currently have tasks qued/being worked on, from World Community Grid, yoyo@home, and Rosetta@home.
I just started running tasks for yoyo[@home, and by golly. These tasks are freaking HUGE! The shortest task estimate is 2 days, and 18 hours.
Rosetta@home offered up tasks that took me more than a day for most, to be completed.
World Community Grid has been the best in completing tasks and not taking more than a day to finish. The longest estimated time to completion has been under 9 hours.
