It’s terrible for tech searches too; half of those results are copy-pasted from Stack Overflow. Though that goes for DDG as well.

I mean, the meme doesn’t disprove that. Like, it’s true that the internet did have people saying that. That said, modern social media and their algorithms have made the process (of misinformation) much more streamlined.
I still hope for federation of Threads. I just wanna be on my own non-Facebook server, but be able to communicate with that domain. Like with email.
the person saying “I hate it when editors do it” is really not understanding why this is a feature and not a bug.
No, I get that it’s not a bug. I just don’t like it, personally, and want to be able to turn it off. Don’t know where read that I thought it was a bug.
I mean, I don’t like it, and I’m kinda fine with it being the default if most of the people want it. I just think we should be able to turn it off.

This reminds me of text editor that leave half a screen of ‘wiggle room’ when scrolling down. Absolutely hate it, and if I can’t turn it off, I won’t use the text editor.

That’d work fine if you ran a solo instance, but you don’t. Being part of a community means having to be aligned with a common set of values, even just a little. And if your values include giving nazis a megaphone, allowing csam, etc, then you don’t belong here.

I feel like this is where 3rd party clients can really shine. Offer a good default algorithmic sort, and let users configure it themselves as much as they please – it’s their feed after all.
I’d do it myself if I didn’t have enough work on my plate already lol.
Thing is that is a fixable problem. It’s technologically very possible to set up a simple algorithm to try to get like 3-5 posts max from one community, have them be as recent as possible, and return the most popular ones.
Reddit has a problem that is rooted much more deeply; their CEO.
