Sliding sync was recently implemented in Synapse itself, so as long as your Synapse is up to date there shouldnt be any more setup on the matrix side. Try checking the Synapse logs for any issues and/or the cloudflare tunnel configuration (I have no idea about what it does to traffic).

They dont degrade the service until you pay. They dont lock features behind a paywall, they dont have ads. They beg you to pay, they dont extort you. Why does it matter that they seem desperate?

Yes. I want my old version of an app that will never stop working when someone decides it should. Im ok with paying to upgrade, Im not ok with apps that needlessly need an internet connection and that stop working when someone shuts down their license server.

I am on GrapheneOS, based on Android 13, on a 64-bit only CPU. It is available. You might need to download it from F-Droid, I have no clue about whether the Play Store version is downloadable, as it isnt too actively maintained.
