  • While I agree with the goal, this doesn’t make the underlying voter sentiment go away. What is the German government doing to address the underlying reasons for AFD’s rise? Regardless of their veracity, those thoughts are prevalent enough to cause this problem. While they might lessen, they won’t simply go away with the party if it’s banned. They have to be addressed, one way or another. I’m in the US, and I would argue that, out side of his base, most Trump voters don’t like the guy at all. Yet the Democrats’ “We’re not them” message has so far not been an consistent winner!

  • It could be a perspective thing. Children of immigrants possibly don’t see themselves as immigrants or even adjacent.

One other thought I had was about trust fund kids thinking they “worked as hard as anyone else” for their riches. For example, I remember when Bezos was building Amazon. He certainly did work hard to build that site, but the benefits of the loan his parents provided cannot be overlooked or forgotten. Same thing with Elon… most rich people, for that matter.

  • I’ve looked into NFS multiple times. I work in HPC implementation and believe me I know about SMB/CIFS performance (or lack thereof!)! I just haven’t had the time to figure out ID mapping. What NFS version do you use, and how do you handle file ownership on the shares? I suppose it’s all read-only, so that would make it a bit easier?

  • This sounds pretty great, TBH. I think I’m probably tied to Synology for the foreseeable future with my parents’ and my NAS being each others off site backup. I know there are other ways to do it, but the investments are already made on both ends. Plus, they’re retired, so the 1522 with 18TB drives wasn’t a small expense for them!
