That’s not true it’s compatible with anything running ActivityPub. It currently has build a Mastodon client as a demo that’s why right now you can use it with Mastodon. They built Mastopod in a week. Part of the pitch it showing devs how relatively simple it is to build apps on top of it. So if someone builds a Pixelfed, Lemmy etc app then you absolutely can use it

It was only from a US point of view and not how the EU has been a thorn in Big Tech’s side. Mastodon has 1.6 MAU and many users have multiple accounts. Mastodon is too small for Meta to care about. Those startups Meta squashed were doing innovative things Meta never seen applied before. When it purchased Instagram and WhatsApp there were many millions of active users. Meta as was many Big Tech companies a part of the W3C when AP was being planned and backed out. The Fediverse is about as old as Facebook so Meta has seen this before, Mastodon hasn’t done anything new on this front. Outside of that there are some interesting considerations

It’s not possible, all of the kinds of people you’re saying he wants on the Fediverse are already on the Fediverse. Also, small doesn’t equal safer, the Fediverse has been small until last year and for years minorities have dealt with racism and harassment. What he said is ultimately right, we need to make the tools. With better tools people can largely have their preferred experiences, it doesn’t have to be an either or situation.

That’s not even remotely true . If you block the instance it prevents your content from being shared with the blocked domain and you do not view content from that domain.

That’s not how Bluesky does it. Sure it empowers users which is great but if there is a PDS for example with lolicon, one I don’t see it making past the content filters but if it did the BGS/Relay would blacklist that PDS

This doesn’t make sense. You don’t have to be on an instance that federates with Threads or any corporation. You as a user can also block domains. You don’t have to leave and can still enjoy the space on your terms

They cannot force anyone to view content that they do not want. If you don’t spend much time on the federated timeline you’re not likely to run into any of it. Also, it would do Threads a huge disservice. They took a lot of flack because they stated that they didn’t want to promote news as it’s inflammatory. They clarified that news is allowed but it’s not content they will amplify. Also, a lot of the culture has been hurt by what happened with Twitter/X and people are making a concerted efforts to promote more quality content and engagement

I don’t see that happening. As long as those that taint Mastodon’s reputation are kept away things will be fine. “True believers” do not want more of everyone and that is part of the problem. People have various social needs that many on Mastodon don’t care about nor respect. If Threads wins them over by being more welcoming and accepting that says a lot. But, I must be fair. I have seen improvement within the culture and people actively working to be more open to others . I care more about users having their needs met than any one specific platform.

I didn’t say not trust Threads users. I’m saying they do not trust Fediverse users. What I mean is that in order for Threads to EEE it would take adoption and compliance. It would take the masses here being too entangled with Threads that even if they do things people don’t like, those instances & users will simply start using Threads or bend completely to their will. Otherwise, people will block Threads and operate as usual. That’s what I believe will happen but many don’t.
