Amen. Basically this survey reads to me as “we decided to focus on AI and we need some pretty graphs to show it’s an awesome idea - please tell us why you think AI is the best thing ever!”

What I did was first set all the options up and save them, and then go to “Cookies” in the search engine settings and copy the “Search URL of the currently saved preferences”. Then, open Firefox settings -> Search -> Manage alternative search engines -> Add search engine and paste the thing into the “Search string URL” field, type in the name and press save. After that I just set it as default, and it works.
Hope this helps!
Great list! Is there a way to easily add SearXNG as a default search engine in Firefox for Android? That’s the only thing I’d like to make it even more convenient
EDIT: found it! Search url with current options is hidden at the bottom of the “cookies” section in the settings. Would be nice to have the suggestions API link too, but oh well, I’ll take what I can get :)
Even Apple’s damn screen polishing cloth is not cheap - why would anyone hope for Apple branded ANYTHING to ever be cheap?
It’s insane, isn’t it? Why do so many companies act like employees are their indentured servants and not professionals who provide their services to them in exchange for money?
If anything, the boss should have said “Are you sure just 3 days are enough? How about you take the whole week off instead and come back fully refreshed?”. I do hope the court throws the book at them - time off should be a goddamned sacred right if every employee.

Fixed it for them
Same - my blocklist is gigantic now, but by combining that with subscriptions means that I can always choose between a very tightly curated list of stuff that interests me and nothing else (browsing subscribed) and a much bigger list of more random stuff that lets me discover new things but still doesn’t have sports, cars, porn and other things in actively disinterested in (browsing all). I like this system a lot.
Same - right now I have a list of DMs that shows full names and is immediately accessible - to me that’s significantly easier to look through than a mockup of a phone interface…
I’m using Slack on desktop and for work - not a fun of makig it look like I’m texting my buddies from my phone.
No idea, honestly - not a trekkie, so I never cared enough to ask :)
I’m on an instance that defederated from only 3 other ones: voyager.lemmy.ml, ds9.lemmy.ml and enterprise.lemmy.ml - just checked now. I honestly dont see a firehose of trash, tankie invasion or anythig of the sort. I do aggressively block communities I have zero interest in, so it might still be happening there, but I personay don’t see it at all - anecdotal evidence, I know, but that’s been my experience.

Amen to that! I’m not a super prolific poster here either, but compared to reddit I’m WAY more active, and it feels mre fun too. In 15 years on reddit I have only made 2 threads as far as I can remember, but on Lemmy (and Squabbles) I’ve been sharing my house plants recently and it feels great!
Yes, the community is much smaller, but also much kinder, and I the average age feels higher here too (I have zero data on it, but just judging by the writing style it feels like there’s a whole bunch of people roughly my age (40+) around these parts).
The solution here would be to mandate full symmetry: if you require muliple steps and confirmations to UNsubscribe or cancel, you must have the exact same steps to subscribe too. I think it would fix this problem very quickly

I just love the unusual shape and the aesthetic overall. Using it with Nova and a very dense layout - I can barely see my wallpaper, but I like it that way.
Got used to these so much, phones with “normal” shaped icons look weird to me now :)
True - which seems to be a bug to me, since that’s what studying by New is supposed to show. I do find all the bugs kinda endearing though - reminds me of the internet of old and the time when reddit wax starting :)
Sorting by anything seems pretty buggy now - growing pains, I guess. I tend to sort by “New comments” and from time to time I’ll get threads with zero comments on top of my feed…
I’m sure it’s going to get better with time - right now we’re all basically taking part in an extended load test for Lemmy and federation mechanisms :)
It’s simple - you’re paying for 2 or 4 screens, but you could be paying for 2 or 4 screens AND multiple accounts! That would give them more of your money, so it’s their preferred option.
Love might be sharing a password, but profit is paying multiple times for the same thing, so here we are…
I just posted it elsewhere, but that’s only the beginning. They also announced their intent to turn reddit into an even more ad-infested hellhole than it already is: https://www.redditinc.com/blog/investing-in-what-makes-reddit-unique-introducing-contextual-keyword-targeting-and-product-ads
