I mean, it’s more complicated than that. Both declared themselves victor. Mainland went communist. The west couldn’t live with that so they propped up to authoritarian govt of Taiwan and ignored the communist government for 30 years, funding the murder of hundreds of thousands of dissidents. They couldn’t “capture” it without dragging themselves into the US’s cold war fever.

It’s only been the last 40 years that Taiwan has become democratic, and only the last 10-20 that the parties who wanted unification started to lose elections. Even then they keep wavering back and forth in elections some trying to tie more to China and some trying to break off entirely afaict.

I grew up in Iowa which would see 0f and 100f every year easily. Now I live in Bangkok which is basically just 90-100 year round. I’m not sure Celsius helps either that much. But outside Iowa I haven’t cared much about the temp outside ever either.

“it just works” always struck me as such an odd adage for apple because so many things don’t work on their platforms.

I had a Sony laptop for awhile where you could draw a circle on the touchpad to infinitely scroll/scrub forward and back (if you started your drag on the far right edge). It was kinda amazing once you got down how to do it.

But scrubbers were around way before apple made theirs.

It’s pretty out of the box now with windows and android. You have to link the two but then it just works (I don’t find it a useful feature though)

Apple purchased their touch screen division from people who had been working on touchscreens for decades before them.

It’s nuts to me that the government isnt clamouring to run free email or cloud storage for people, and encourage them to use it. Same for phone service. It seems like an easy and relatively cheap way to get free access to a lot of data.

I think I’m the opposite here. Live in the city. Commute is short. Things I need are nearby and walkable. If I want to go hiking or something it’s a 20 minute drive. Living in the suburbs means basic needs involve car rides and parking.
