  • I am copying a reply I made to another post:

    …no.

The DNC brain trust thought they could get away with ignoring an absolutely fucking HUGE part of their base. And they were fucking WRECKED for it.

Trump got just about the same number of votes as he did in the last election. Harris got 11M less votes than Biden got. ELEVEN. MILLION. PEOPLE. STAYED THE FUCK HOME. BECAUSE THEY SAW THE ESTABLISHMENT CIRCLEJERK. AND HARRIS FUCKING LEANED INTO IT. AND IGNORED THE VERY FUCKING REAL LIVED EXPERIENCE OF THE MIDDLE CLASS GETTING HOLLOWED OUT, AND THE LOWER CLASS CONTINUING TO GET CRUSHED TO DEATH.

And now we get to listen to pundits and DNC leadership and Biden admin people and Harris campaign people circlejerk themselves about how it wasn’t their fault, it was those goddamn progressives and the stupid Arab Americans who cared about Gaza too much.

Genuinely: fuck all the way off with that narrative. the Democratic Party snatched this defeat from the jaws of victory. There was a path to victory. They simply didn’t fucking take it.

  • To be fair, I grew up with this shit too, and while I refuse to denigrate public education, the degree to which our curriculum is manipulated to tell a particular story from a particular point of view is hard see as anything other than indoctrination in hindsight. It takes a while to mentally pull oneself out of that sort of thing, particularly when it occurs in our formative years.

But also: there have been a number of disclosures and revelations about the history enumerated in the post you replied to in the last decade - for example, the whole saga around the Iran Coup, and how it was largely instigated by BP (of deepwater horizon fame) and essentially occurred because the Tehran CIA station chief basically stopped listening to orders from DC to back down and yolo’d the fucking thing. That’s not to say the government at large is blameless in that particular case, but it was WAY more complicated and fucky than most people realized until very recently.

  • Biden once again bringing a deck of cards to a gunfight because responding effectively and proportionally in a situation that desperatetly calls for it wOuLd bE DiVisiVE.

THIS position is a justification for calling for him to step down from the candidacy, because refusing to even consider reforming - let alone packing (or, dare I say, the newly-revealed presidentially-legal-if-“official” extralegal and violent unpacking) the Supreme Court is very obviously going to lead to the long term failure of not only the Democratic Party, but democracy in this country in general.
