  • You’ll have to message the community mods for clarification. They’re the ones who created and maintain the community, so they get to decide who gets banned and why.

Getting banned for a comment in another community is certainly possible, depending on what you said. I don’t necessarily agree with that moderation style and it doesn’t represent most communities on SJW, but that particular community tends to attract some heavy trolling, so I can understand if they’re a bit trigger-happy on the ban hammer.

  • Tbf you’re on Lemmy 24/7 so you’ll hear about things much earlier than many others. I’ve also been on Piefed for a minute.

But I’ve come to understand how slowly knowledge propagates through large numbers of people, at least via this medium. First with the APIcaplyse, when I realized that virtually nobody on reddit had even heard of the API changes, let alone moving to Lemmy. And then on Lemmy itself with various major events/dramas that people were totally unaware of until much later.

Piefed is developing rapidly and seems like a worthy alternative to Lemmy and Mbin. The private voting feature is also really cool.

  • Try fiddling around with your language settings maybe? Sometimes the language filter can hide posts in a weird way.

Ultimately, if your only interest is in a handful of niche communities, then Lemmy isn’t quite there yet, I agree. I am also missing a bunch of niche communities, but I enjoy most of the popular content that’s on Lemmy anyhow, so I’m not too bothered by the loss of the niche stuff for now.

  • Kbinners are generally really cool.

But tbf, kbin/Lemmy federation is far from flawless, it’s still very inconsistent. For instance, kbin moderator actions don’t federate to Lemmy instances, so I constantly have to remove spam from kbin communities that our users are subscribed to.

Point being, we are making it work right now in suboptimal conditions, so it should get even more enjoyable once the software catches up to where it needs to be.
