Stopped using them once my girlfriend and I found a hidden camera.
Sueing was much more stressful than just getting a regular hotel. Never again.

Could someone explain what I’m missing here? Seeing this for the first time and it just seems like random words.
Not only is Rudd doing and amazing job as admin of the instance, they are also really transparent ab ob it the challenges in their frequent updates!
Nope, it’s an absolute nightmare. The post basically outlines how you could feasibly exploit data across a majority of the Lemmy network without much effort at all.
With a bit more effort you could also link the Lemmy accounts to the users email, as becoming an admin is as simple as hosting your own instance and getting users to join.
Boom you have a business case of profiling people on Lemmy and selling those profiles to advertisers, stalkers and perverts alike.
It is a pretty big deal. What it essentially means is that you are completely exposed, if you pardon the pun.
And yes, absolutely everyone with basic IT skills has access to this data as it is shared across instances. All it takes is a couple minutes to deploy a docker image and boom, I’m somewhat of an admin myself.
The fact that this data is stored in plain is a major security and privacy issue that makes me rethink this platform.
“Curating” makes it sound like you are some kind of porn connoisseur.
Connect for Lemmy is amazing.
There’s also wefwef, which seems to be a clone of Apollo.
Popular Reddit apps like Sync and Boost are currently in the process of making Lemmy ports.
Thank you Ruben!
It seems like the future for Lemmy is pretty bright with all these amazing apps switching over.
It’s a shame that Christian decided to not develop Apollo for Lemmy for the time being. I bet that would also convince a fair share of users to abandon ship.
My wallet is already waiting eagerly for a pro version.
In the meantime I can highly recommend Connect for Lemmy. Also a highly motivated dev with an awesome app.
It’s really fun to try out all these different apps.
I once handed in a citation from an answer to my Stack Overflow question.
Something along the lines of… “After hitting a roadblock the community at Stack Overflow was consulted, as suggested in the lecture, and deemed the task not feasible [1].”
The answer I put in the reference was one of the many variants of “Who in their right mind would do this in Matlab? Use Python instead.”
I passed lol.
Just want to throw Connect for Lemmy into the mix as well. The dev is incredibly responsive to user reported issues and feature requests and it’s already a pleasure to use.
What you guys over the pond really should learn sometime soon is that free speech doesn’t mean that you can spew any random vile bullshit without repercussions.
In the Fediverse those repercussions are that your audience will be limited to the instance you chose, which honestly considering the content we are talking about is really mild.
Some of the stuff I’ve seen would definitely be illegal in Germany and Austria, and trust me, we have more experience with Nazis than we ever wanted. We have laws in place to at least try to prevent the resurgence of Nazis and this also affects servers like lemmy.world that are hosted at Hetzner in Germany I believe. Not defederating from these people could cause legal repercussions for the server owner and it’s just not worth it, considering the content we are talking about.
That bot is an absolute menace. Often I come across a thread that would probably interest me, then I see 0 comments and the standard bot message and move on.
It also feels like it is really spamming those threads, which does not help the situation.
Personally, I would love to see it removed.
Oh boy, some 14-year old finally got his first power-trip boner! Congratulations to him for bending over.
I hope the rest of you guys step back and let him enjoy the joys of modding alone or with other incompetent shills.
And at least the dev of Sync will or has already rolled out an update to explain why the app isn’t working anymore and that Sync for Lemmy is on development.
There’s no better advertisement, really.
I used the power delete suite to leave a nice explanation of Lemmy and ways how to migrate as well as a last happy fuck u/Spez on my main account.
My NSFW account has an even more elegant solution: Each and every post or link was edited to a highlight reel of the 2 girls 1 cup video, with no warning whatsoever.
Both accounts have been abandoned in this state, good luck restoring the OG content.
Haven’t found a way either with Jerboa and Connect. Not t sure if it’s possible at the moment.
I have a habit of using a flashlight to go to the toilet in hotels or unfamiliar places, so I don’t stub my toe or other stupid stuff when doing the nightly toilet sleep walk.
So I grab the flashlight, point it around and notice a glint from the ceiling fan. The ceiling fan didn’t have an IR remote so it didn’t make sense and yup, sure enough it was a little lens that conveniently pointed towards the bed.
Fun thing: We actually signed a waiver that the house uses cameras, since there were a view regular ones on the perimeter for security, which seemed logical. That asshole really tried to play the “but you signed that you’re okay with being filmed” card.
