Also, get the updated kernel out of the backports repo as the main repo is pretty far behind in my opinion. I needed 6.5+ to get the hardware compatibility for some stuff and then I more or less had an out of box experience. I also highly recommend having your /home on a separate partition or drive. This way you can keep your user files if you ever want to change or reinstall the OS.
Don’t feel bad about messing up the install. Everyone fucks it up a few times. The best one I did was forget to make the user account AND did not set a root password. Thou shall not install things at 2am…
Biggest thing I make sure to never forget is the export/import of any authenticator apps. That is a huge mess to fix.
I heavily heavily sympathetize. I can’t get the damn things open. I bought the reusable mesh bags because it is far less frustrating to use. Except when I forget to bring them…
It is super easy to cancel. You even get a partial refund if you want it gone today. Wait a couple months and see if you really miss it. Join the piracy gang. Ultimately, you are the product and Internet streaming has turned into cable TV. Take back what little privacy you have left.
I just use a browser addon to always use old reddit.
As a women I don’t get much say in it, but we could never afford haircuts growing up so dad and I cut each other’s hair, but I wasn’t given much choice. The top one looks like someone tried to make a little kid into an adult, but on the other hand, if he wanted it that way, why judge? Especially if it helps their self esteem.
I am a huge proponent of letting kids choose their own style and express themselves, even if we think it looks bad. I knew a lot of kids growing up with bowl cuts, snazzy buzz cuts, and just generic “insert male haircut here”. It is just hair. It grows back. There is always going to be a little extra to unpack once you get their peers involved, but that is another lesson entirely (body image, unhealthy expectations, etc).
Is running Linux off a USB drive possible? It isn’t ideal, but you can still have persistence if needed? There is also WSL, if you don’t need a GUI.
I have no idea how we got to it before at I mostly use smaller channels and friends, but I just tapped on the # channel-banner-name at the top, without having to think about it too hard. I have never seen this screen until now, but having separate tabs for all the shared links, media, pins, and members is something I wish more apps did.
I hope they can find a happy middle ground for users, or give users enough customization options where they can configure what works for them. I hate that only 3rd party apps for things like Reddit and Lemmy actually give you control over your interface. Is it too much to ask to have customization options like the old days? 😥
Wait, the new UI I got yesterday? With the servers and messages finally finally separated? I like it personally. I struggle to find my DMs on the desktop app vs servers and never found the overall UI intuitive. I am usually the first to get upset over UI changes (looking at you Google Messages!), but for once I am happy.
I was curious as I couldn’t help but laugh, but damn dude. That is rough. Hilarious looking at it now, but I feel bad for whomever was at the receiving end.
Of course, I’d also suggest that whoever was the genius who thought it was a good idea to read things ONE FUCKING BYTE AT A TIME with system calls for each byte should be retroactively aborted. Who the fuck does idiotic things like that? How did they not die as babies, considering that they were likely too stupid to find a tit to suck on?
I remember when that article came out I had a passing thought that it was probably JBS Grand Island. Low and behold… Not fucking surprised.
I worked at a company that did some upgrades for that system and that place is vile. It was hard not to puke in the parking lot some days and I remember walking around the outside of building (left), and seeing all of the spray downs on the way to the freezer.
Same. I watch everything with subtitles. Helps with the mild audio processing disorders that tend to go hand in hand with ADHD, Autism, or somewhere along the spectrum.
I do try and make them small and unobtrusive though. Especially when I can put them on the bottom where there are black bars due to aspect ratio differences.
Speaking of Nolan, I was able to watch Oppenheimer on 30mm at an independent theater and subtitles were actually turned on. It was much appreciated.
Hehehe. A round is 6 seconds right? Imagine if the players had to use clocks like in chess…
In case you were seriously asking, “lighter fluid” is just fuel/gas to quickly (an accelerant) start a fire. So the fuel you might find in a cigarette lighter. Typically when people say “lighter fluid”, in this case, they mean the giant squirt bottle that you use on a barbecue pit to get the coals to light faster.
Except…
I feel bad for my rubber ducky. It still helps though! The number of support/bug report emails that never get sent because I figured it out from the same thought process is not 0. I read this once, but talking/thinking about the problem, just the problem, for 5+ minutes before trying to come up with solutions can be really helpful.
Reminds me of Elliot from Mr. Robot who rewired his brain to only see Evil Corp.
I code daily on mine, by choice. I also have no issue coding on Linux and will happily spend all day in a CLI. Homebrew is just as easy as using apt or what have you, at least in my personal experience.
It isn’t always perfect. There was a bit of head scratching over shared libraries one time, until I figured out what stupidity I had to do to make Apple happy, but that is the only notable thing I can remember.
However, coding on Windows can be super painful depending on the language, especially with all of the backwards paths. The only coding work I enjoy doing on Windows is C#. Worst case WSL2 is around when I need some sanity.
No matter what, I have any of them available to me and the battery life on a MacBook Air is amazing. The corporate laptop is actually a decent machine and the size and weight is pretty good, especially considering the monstrous bricks the previous models were. Mobile workstation woes I guess. The most amusing part is AutoCAD 2024 running smoothly on the Mac. I never knew it could be that snappy.
It wasn’t until I moved and had a Wegmans that I pretty much never see a cart outside of their sheds. The couple times I have seen it was at the “entitled rich people” location. Wegmans has enough cart returns around that you have absolutely no excuse. They even put the reserved spots for pregnant and those with children right next to the returns so it is easier for them.
As a woman I have really sparse leg hair, so I don’t usually bother shaving. I don’t get any uncomfortable stubble though. At least not on my legs. Estrogen changes hair and tends to make it softer, which probably explains the difference.
