Snaps make sens from the Ubuntu side.
Only one package to maintain for an application, even if they have different distributions to maintain. If snap is officially supported by the creator of the application, then it’s less work for Canonical. Well, it would have make more sens if flatpak didn’t exist.

What I love the most from bazzite team, is their work with distrobox . Install the distribution you love, follow their tutorial, boom, you get access to the AUR, and it has a minimal impact on your system.
Bazzite felt great to me, but too slow on my computer to enjoy it, so I hopped. But still, I love what they do.

The installation is seamless thanks to calamares, there are some graphic tools that can help for beginners on arch. Their kernel might be one of the most optimised one to have a smooth experience while gaming. I do not play ressources hungry games, so I can not really tell.
After setting snapshots, I decided to experience it totally blind folded, just to see how long I can last on it. I update the system around 2 times a week, never read any changelog, just like any of the other distro I used… And for now, I’ve never had any trouble.
My system seems to be way smoother and more responsive than with fedora or tumbleweed.
I use my computer mostly for steam, heroic, librewolf and LibreOffice.
But do you know about chimeraOS ?
If I remember correctly, valve took inspiration from it for its OS. If steamOS takes too long for you, take a look at it.
If i remember well, Chimera OS is what steam took inspiration of for steam OS.

I use lawnchair as a replacement of the launcher from /e/OS. It is fast and customisable and has a more android type look. Fossify could be another option, maybe lighter than lawnchair.
The original one is smooth, but I do not like IOS launcher and icons type.

When I’ll change for a fairphone, before turning to /e/OS, I’ll probably try iodé OS. It seems they have similar privacy /anti-ad features but the OS might be less bloated and the system app are not rebranded, they keep their original name and icons.

I’m not sure for Ubuntu… I’ve seen here and there that some snap are still not as good as flatpak or .deb.
Especially the steam one where some games wouldn’t launch on the snap but do with the flatpak or the .deb. Progress are made regularly, but until the snaps aren’t on par with other packages type, I wouldn’t recommand Ubuntu for beginners.
Distro based on it, without snap, yeah sure. Pop OS, tuxedo OS, Mint, Debian… There is a lot of alternative where you do not have to struggle on forced non finished applications.

I use “simple dialer” and “simple contacts”. “Simple” applications usually work well, and their pro versions are available for free on f-droid.

Starfield works on linux since day one… If you have an AMD graphic card. I’ve seen that it’s more complicated on Nvidia.

It’s complicated to prove you that my friend told me this, it was an oral conversion with no recording, but I can swear we talked a bit about it.
It was more about the applications compiled by garuda than the system itself. He told me they were communicating with Google and other stuff a lot.
I didn’t try it by myself, (and I don’t have the time to install a distribution just to check that). It might be for update, it might be nothing. That’s why I asked if he was using Garuda and that it was something he might want to check… Or not.

Are you using garuda ?
A friend of mine tried it and found garuda’s tool really useful, but while setting his firewall, he realised that garuda send lots of data. It made him uninstall it immediatly.
If it’s a concern for you, you might want to check that.
I had the same issue than you with my internet browser and VLC (or other media players). I thought it was due to missing codecs. But even after reinstalling all of them, I got lags on video.
Now, i use flatpak for my internet browser and for VLC, everything works just fine.
There are ISO of debian with calamares installer available on debian website. The real difficulty is to find them.
I did that a few months ago, from a 3060ti to a 6700xt. Best decision since I decided to erase my windows partition.
Murena ? as the murena foundation that develop /e/OS ? If yes, their OS is based on LineageOS microG edition with a great ad/tracker blocker and an app store that is kind of a fusion between the aurora store and fdroid (without the ability to add repositories unfortunately, in the version I used at least).
So you can install whatever apps you want with it(Except maybe android auto, I guess). I had my banking app and it worked well (until it detected I was root).
I used it with my oneplus 7, It had some big trouble these last months as their servers were outdated and they needed to update their whole infrastructure. Now, everything seems to be back to normal.
I can not say for their phones (murena 1 and 2), but their OS is solid to me.
