Leaving someone with a misconception isn’t better. Sometimes people doesn’t know that they can search for something elsewhere and it isn’t bad to point it out in case they are interested in looking for alternatives.

I think you are referring to gnome more than debian. I’ve been trying debian with kde and so far I haven’t found that many problems.

Regarding duckduckgo, they make it easy to redirect your search somewhere else if you don’t find what you want right away. So you can be comfortable trying it. For example to search the same in google add !g or in wikipedia !w (and more https://duckduckgo.com/bangs )
