Awwdly specific

You’ll always feel old, and you’ll always look back at yourself a decade prior and marvel at what a fool you were for feeling old back then when you were really so, so young. This is a universal experience.

I didn’t really get going on anything until my mid 30s. I just cleaned floors and answered phones. Ended up meeting another late bloomer. We both graduated from mid college programs at the end of our 30s, and now we’re both limping through our “careers” in our 40s.

Yeah it might have been better if we started earlier but we didn’t. And I sure as fuck look back at myself at 30 thinking how even with 000 to show for it I was still young and full of future, even if I felt like an ancient loser.

Not medical advice, but I got used to wearing shoes indoors after years of office work, but taking off my shoes when indoors and actually using all my muscles to hold myself upright, has lead to a real reduction in discomfort.

If you’re used to shoes all the time, it HURTS at first to go without and you have to take frequent sit/stand breaks. This is GOOD and you should listen to your body and continue moving in ways that make you feel better.

Your point just reminded me that if you’re capable, that one of the simplest mediations you can do is work with your muscles to keep yourself straight.

We’ve gotten to the point where you aren’t considered a real professional unless you start even the smallest projects with maximum technical debt.

Hmm, you kind of lost me with these metaphors. No offence, I’m just not sure what is supposed to represent what here.

But if the guy who created the FOSS movement says something gross, then they and everything they stand for should apparently be shunned.

They might mean that, but they didn’t say it. I don’t think they did mean it. I think they just don’t want people to forget the “problematic” aspects of someone before we go all worship mode on him.

It’s like how my partner will interject–he’s canadian!–if I mention some actor. Like she just doesn’t want me to forget that context, but other than that, I can carry on.

Maybe they did mean that, though and I’m missing some context from somewhere else in this thread.

Randomly reminds me of some of the freakier social scifi to come out of Asimov’s typewriter. I remember one Robot story where the audience insert protagonist goes to an outer world colony where the incest taboo is not only missing, but it’s considered a faux pas to avoid sex with your family. One of the characters is in deep consternation because he doesn’t want to have sex with his daughter. Anyway, the protagonist and audience are naturally disgusted, but clearly it stuck in my head.

Academically… I don’t know. Because of my upbringing, I just can’t see it is as anything other than a severe moral crime. But I guess I could imagine a very very different world from our own where it wouldn’t be the weirdest fucking thing imaginable to even talk about it.

But that’s me bending over backwards to get inside the head of someone I think I like, like our buddy Stallman here.
