Reminds me of the Talos Principle more than anything.
I don’t feel bad for these morons. Trump is doing exactly what he said he would do and these supposedly more intelligent billionaires are completely surprised.
I’m a chemical engineer at a plastics company. When I’m in the office I’m looking at data and making decisions based on that, like whether to stop or increase production rates, whether to shut something down for maintenance, or finding what piece of equipment is broken and causing a problem. I also design improvements to the process like finding better ways to run the machinery, new equipment that gets us more capacity, or new ways to control the equipment. I would say about 80% of my time is in the office and 20% is in the manufacturing area.

Pontius Pilates sounds like a much more fun guy who teaches a class at the YMCA
If you think Christianity is unique in this regard look towards Buddhism, specifically the Vajrayana branches (often associated with Tibet) and you’ll see even more gruesome imagery than any Christian symbolism. Buddhas drinking blood out of the skulls of their enemies, stomping on corpses, and having sex all at the same time, and even more shocking things. These"fearsome" or “wrathful” manifestation of Buddhist deities that display raw power and the trappings of demons to destroy said demons are relatively common. Religion is weird and powerful symbolism is often shocking.
Yeah I think people on Lemmy are delusional about how much people are willing to stick with Trump. Opinion polls are staying pretty high, close to 50% even after the tariff nonsense and Venezuelan concentration camps. Trump’s approval rating cannot go below 30% because roughly a third of the population are completely incapable of finding any fault in their God Trump. The fact that so many people who aren’t in this camp are still sticking by him is a sign of how corrupt and vile the American people are more than anything. It’s hard to continue to love my fellow Americans when they keep being so stupid.

The person you replied to used these strange symbols to show they were speaking from someone else’s point of view and not expressing their own opinion.
I make an intentional point not to say please and thank you to these things, voice assistants like Alexa, and other computers that want to talk to me. Do the people who insist on thanking these things also say you’re welcome to the self checkout machine at Walmart when it says “thank you for shopping at Walmart?” It’s absurd.
If I understand correctly this is essentially how condensed models like Deepseek work and how they’re able to attain similar performance on much cheaper hardware. If all still goes through the LLM but LLM is a lot lighter because it has this sort of thing built in. That’s all a vast oversimplification.
I am also curious. I’m spoiled by having access to Bluebeam at work and I have yet to find any software that comes close to the same ease of functionality for editing PDFs, even for extremely basic things like splitting, merging, and rotating pages.
I feel like if you had put half the time and effort it took to do this into improving yourself and going outside you could have at least gone on some dates with real women at this point. Talking to an AI chatbot is not the same as human connection and will only lead to further depression as you realize that no matter how much you “love” your AI girlfriend she will never truly love you back because she can’t think or feel, and fundamentally isn’t real.
I fantasized about forming a tenant’s union when I was still renting but the people I talked to about it were completely unfamiliar with the concept and thought it was stupid so I gave up. Now the company I used to rent from has bought up pretty much all the apartment complexes in the area and people who rent from them are complaining about immoral and illegal stuff they’re doing but won’t consider actually doing anything about it. Anti union sentiment is deep in America and I don’t have any hope for the American public to do anything to help themselves.
Not only that, the establishment Democrat will win the primary due to the progressive vote being split over infighting among 50 different primary candidates. That’s how we ended up with Biden.
I had never watched the movies or read the books as a kid because my parents thought they would make me turn to satanism and so I was horrified watching a friend play lego harry Potter and I see this anti semitic stereotype hoarding gold so I was like “bro what is that” and he was like “oh yeah that’s a goblin they run the wizard banks” and I was like “so wait a race of evil creatures with giant hook noses run all the banks in Harry Potter? That’s sketchy as fuck” and he was like “Huh… Never noticed it before but yeah that’s messed up”
It doesn’t count unless it goes to the government. Taxes and exploitation are good as long as they come from private companies instead of the government because freedom is a vibe rather than an actual set of circumstances.
This is a braindead take. The word “empire” has a lot of cultural baggage with Russian nationalism and it is totally different than say “the Spanish Empire” or “The British Empire” because when Russians say “The Russian Empire” it is specifically referring to an idea within Russian nationalism that Russia is the successor state to Rome and all of the cultural and religious ideas that come with that. The idea is that Moscow is the “Third Rome” with the first being, well, Rome, the second being Constantinople, and after the fall of Constantinople, it went to Moscow because of the unique connection of the Rus’ with the Byzantine empire and Eastern Christianity. To use the term “Russian Empire” would be a huge boost to Russian nationalists and accomplish nothing substantial for anyone else.
Ngl I totally understand this one. When you’re Russia it’s not like you have a lot of options for international partners and the Taliban are straight up the government of Afghanistan. It’s kind of awkward to try to make trade deals with one of the only countries still willing to trade with you when all of its leaders and officials are considered members of a banned terrorist organization. I suppose this is an issue any time there is a revolution, once the radicals are the actual government everyone has to re-evaluate how to deal with them.
some have said
Oh you mean someone might interpret the sinister race of greedy hook nosed goblin creatures who run all of the banks as possibly being influenced by anti semitic tropes? That’s news to me!
It greatly simplifies life from a legal standpoint. It’s basically like creating a tiny corporation of two people that can act as a single legal entity. If you’re married it simplifies buying a house together, inheritance, medical decisions, etc. As others have pointed out, these are important especially when your partner’s family don’t approve of you or the relationship especially for LGBT people.
I am going to break the mold though and say the actual ceremony is important too. Declaring your intention to stay together for life in front of your friends and family changes things. It adds a level of security and finality to the relationship- you have to put your money where your mouth is on the relationship. Although people frequently do it, I don’t know how someone can go through the wedding process without reflecting on how big of a deal it is to stand up in front of so many of your friends and family and declare your intention to stay together forever, even without the religious ritual aspect of it. I wouldn’t want to have kids with someone without having this commitment, for example. Ultimately even though marriage is a social construct, I think it’s still a useful one even in a world where women are no longer considered property of men.
