It would need to physically slap you through the screen to be worse than it already is. How is anyone still using it? inertia? there’s literally no way anyone started using it after the subscription was added right?

Youtube keeps trying to add friction but it’s still better for most people as a direct result because it makes the content worse without youtube specific plugins. I can’t imagine what needing a vpn would look like because it’s never been a good experience whenever I’ve tried in the past, I’m just lucky I don’t really need one I guess.
mirroring content is never a bad idea.
Harris explicitly didn’t play identity politics, and I applaud her for it. I think the left is starting to realise even people who agree with them dislike being told what to think … one can dream right.
The biggest problem I have with peertube besides videos buffering or simply not loading at all is the fact creators just cross post their youtube content which is a worse experience than just watching on youtube with sponsor block.
Extremists on both sides are a problem, so when you say “those loud extremists” a reasonable person would have no idea who you’re talking about. I think you’re correct in either instance, but I doubt that’s what you where going for.
"Time for my favourite game, is there a limit?
–several hours later –
if there is I couldn’t find it but check out my frame rate now"
mainstream culture
Talk to any random person on the street and they don’t fucking care about identity politics.
Extremists are not the mainstream no matter how much they shout about it.
I don’t see the problem here
I have a netgear router that isn’t even that old and it doesn’t have gigabit ports.
even though I was able to throw openwrt on there to mess around with it’s still e-waste
exactly, old-fashioned Rick Roll was dead long before youtube ads
A Rick Roll is a link to a domain that disables your ability to close your browser and maxes your volume.
Youtube links have never been Rick rolls.
move fast, break things
The current audience for Lemmy/Fediverse is a niche group.
A niche group who is here because capital destroyed other platforms we loved.
I don’t think my statement is untrue but I also don’t think it will remain true for much longer for exactly the reasons you put forward.
edit: @LEVI@feddit.org
People disliked when I just said this after the election and now it’s just a fact.
dems didn’t stay at home
do you think any of that could happen if it was beholden to capital?
"…and does not depend on venture capital to survive,” wrote Rochko, subtly jabbing at one of Bluesky’s potential weaknesses with that last bit.
it wasn’t a subtle jab, it’s the primary reason everything else has gone to shit. it is the MAIN selling point of the fediverse.
Fuck you, Subscribe.
