i7 isn’t a processor family its a marketing segment. Every generation of intel CPU has a i3 i5 i7. i7 means you have a nicer version of whatever year processor you have but you could have something 14 years old or released yesterday. Since you can’t actually make countries just take back millions of people and it would be a humanitarian nightmare they end up staying in the camps long term. They are no better run than the camps Trump built earlier and desperation makes them inherently more violent which is used to justify the violence by the guards and the deaths. Situated as they are near the southern border in the summer the inhumane heat along with old friends like cholera and new friends like covid start to really thin the herd tens of thousands die. People start to compare it to german death camps but they do so quietly offline.

The worst thing is as this horror story plays out most people can continue to live quite normal lives so almost everyone does just like they did in Nazi Germany. There is a push to make they detainees most of which have little hope to get repatriated or released earn their keep and they become work camps. The deaths rise. There is violence in the camps as people are desperate to escape and there are mass killings and reprisals.

Meanwhile overseas China takes Taiwan and Russia Ukraine and begins eyeing the Baltic states. China and Russia with India as a tacit ally end up in a war with western Europe. This time Paris burns but good along with London. Everyone is terrified of nuclear war but nobody on any side really wants to blow up the planet they want to own it not destroy it and eventually a truce is called with Russia now holding all its former possessions and some new ones along with China. The US Russia China and India are the 4 sided economic engine of the world and money from 3 fascist powers and one collaborator spread their poison promoting “right” thinking smaller powers and governments.

It is incredibly trivial to give everyone the pretense of privacy while really scrutinizing them down to the pores on their face and removing anyone “subversive” It’s kind of funny that everyone was worried about a super intelligent skynet ending humanity when actual AIs turn out to be mere idiot savants no more sentient than a carburetor but far smarter and sleepless and watchful. Better than us at the art of tyranny in the same fashion as they are better at chess simply able to computer and analyze more more input and correlate it more effectively not sentient.

Robot soldiers are if anything much more diligent and ethical performing objectives skillfully and never hurting anyone by accident. A relatively tiny number of people will supervise construction and design and fewer yet will be given any control of policy. Respectfully if DKMS wasn’t automatically kicking in then you configured it incorrectly. It’s a lot easier to just rely on a package that sets this up for you properly. If for some reason this can’t be done the logical thing to do is script the process so that all operations are completed in the appropriate order that way you needn’t remember to do one then the other.

As an American I wish I could

There has never been an evenly distributed political population in the history of the US nor is there ever more than 2 major parties in any given contest. This isn’t just happenstance. By definition any third party that grows strong enough to count pulls votes from the party they are most alike ensuring the victory of the major party that is least like the small party.

For instance a normal race looks like 50 Republican 47 Democrat 3% split between 4 different parties. Say one party the libertarians which is aligned with Republicans in many respects gains in that singular race 6% to themselves next go round. This isn’t even enough for anyone to believe you could actually win just respectable enough for people to know you even EXIST. What happens is that you draw your votes mostly from would be Republican voters due the verisimilitude of your positions. You end up with something like

45% Republicans 46% Democrats 6% Libertarians 3% other

Congrats you both caused Republicans to lose ensuring the Democrat would torpedo the very positions you championed and ably demonstrated why no third party can ever get more than minor traction. This is a fundamental feature of the American political system.

This description is outrageously wrong regarding the US. Each contest is FPTP but we have many contests centered on geographic regions. Because of this the the breakdown you listed above for the 4 parties ends up with drastically different results based on how these people are distributed geographically. You could see anything from them winning virtual no seats to the majority of seats. You could NEVER win all seat

Our senate is 2 seats per state with some states having as little as around a half a million people and some having tens of millions. Our house is nominally more democratic but its not truly exactly proportional and its subject to gerrymandering.

It’s certainly broken enough to potentially practically provide 51% of the power to a party supported by 45% of the people but its not so bad as to provide 100% of control to someone with 40%

One check on the cost of sovereign debt is that its denominated in the currency issued by your own central bank. If your economy tanks at least your debts are denominated in the same increasingly shitty currency. You also lose any levers you might be able to push to manipulate the situation to your own advantage and become vulnerable to the monetary policy of another nation which you hope is still an ally.

Building on top of wlroots is still a different scope of problem than writing a window manager for X. Pretending its the same thing doesn’t change the fundamentally different architecture even if it certainly makes it easier.

X has a singular fully functional implementation into which you can slot a wide variety of components. Because everything is a component that slots into the singular X implementation forking has both a low benefit and a high cost.

Wayland is just a protocol everyone must implement with a semi useless reference implementation that nobody would ever use. Nobody forks Wayland they just implement it as they must the X approach isn’t available.

It’s apples to oranges. A meaningless comparison. Its more just churn than innovation on the part of desktops.

The article is 3 years old and some things are only presently being fixed NOW and due to filter down to stable distros in 2024. Furthermore wayland proponents have been claiming its totally ready for prime time and not broken at all since 2015 while promoting AMD GPUs that at that point in time still sucked hairy balls.

For most of its 15 year history implementations have been woefully and obviously insufficient. Nobody forked X because nobody needed to. Its feature complete and has been for a long time and there was nothing wrong with using X while Wayland implementations see progressive improvement.
