Which is odd, because most electric vehicles (including some models of the Tesla) have better crash ratings due to having a crumple zone where the engine would be. Assuming that’s still true, there must be another factor that tips the balance towards deadly accidents. Some thoughts:

• They are heavy cars. Maybe it’s safer for the passengers but more deadly for the other vehicle.
• Maybe Tesla drivers are more irresponsible than other car owners.
• Maybe the torque and acceleration is too high, causing people to lose control more often.
• Maybe something that doesn’t get rated in the crash ratings causes deaths, eg. electric locks which are unable to open when power is lost, a likely scenario during collisions.
• Maybe the FSD features are causing more collisions to happen.

I strongly disagree. Cheat codes provided infinite possibilities in an otherwise static game. The only reason don’t use cheat codes today is because they evolved into sandbox mode, console commands, and mods. And trust me, Skyrim would be long dead without those.

In not entirely sure if I trust the statistics that are available for a couple reasons (and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong):

1. They are self reported by the manufacturer
2. Systems like autopilot will revert to manual control when it detects a situation it can’t handle, which means it has the luxury of “not being at fault during the crash” when it may have caused the situation 5 seconds before
3. It’s comparing to all vehicles instead of just vehicles that have similar non-self-driving but effective safety features

Considering that driving is (statistically) the most dangerous thing the average person does, I wouldn’t really say that people use the steering wheel just fine.

It’s just that computers are currently worse at it than humans.

Yep, on a public forum like this we lose very little on privacy by federating with them. What we do stand to lose is comment and post quality, but that’s trivial to fix by simply blocking threads on a personal level.
