Correct. Almost all apps use the “option” key on a Mac, which is not a key on Windows keyboards. It more or less is just a change in the key name for most apps. I just tried using it in Excel to create a new line in a cell, and it has the same behavior as the ALT key on a Windows device.

As well as a software called Power Bi doesn’t work well on MacBooks (slow, freezing or straight up not working). My friend had this issue in university and was forced to use my laptop to do the models.

Third-party software compatibility is obviously going to be an issue for some software on MacOS.

Yes. There is no internal upgradable parts. I believe you can only replace the battery cells, the fans, and the mainboard (motherboard with soldered CPU/RAM(VRAM)/SSD, and all connected modules like the USB chipsets, audio chipset, etc.).

The base models (the air’s, not pro’s), should have shipped with 12-16GB standard, and the pro’s should have shipped with 16-24GB standard. I’d argue that a minimum of 24-32GB should really be the standard on something named a “pro” model.

Apple’s M-based laptops are really great - excellent display, best-in-class speakers, good keyboard, industry-leading trackpad…But 8GB of RAM for $1600? Get out of here.

Maybe not all the features, but basic scanning should work with just a driver. I have a Brother Multi-function that works on Mac OS without Brother software. I think I recall Windows having a scanner interface built-in.

Wait, you have to have an app to print? On Windows? Can’t you just install the driver and print using the Windows print interface? I understand that they have software that might have extra features, but basic printing should only require a driver, at most.

That’s crazy, but believable. I have a pair of Bose 700’s kicking around that one of my kids uses, but they don’t have the app. I wonder how they can potentially consent for data collection without breaking any data collection laws.

Does FL have a large cattle market that I am unaware of? That’s the only reason I can think to ban lab-grown meat. It’s a win for almost every other conceivable stakeholder.

Just be the “business person” and find a dev to do the “easy” work, like every other person I’ve heard from when they present an app idea to me.

I still have an Apple 5s (I think) around the house that still “works”, but I wouldn’t call it supported. It does still receive security patches though, so that’s something I guess.

OnHub was the predecessor to Google WiFi. Google touted the OnHub as a “future-proof” router, with 802.15 Zigbee and bluetooth onboard. They indicated that they would enable these features at some point in the products life. Google WiFi came out around 12 months after OnHub, and OnHub suddenly stopped receiving feature updates after that. Google continued with security patches, but that was about all I could recall getting. I’d be curious what other OnHub owners think about their purchase long-term. It certainly didn’t feel supported after WiFi was released. I guess that goes back to my quality vs. quantity of support. It’s great that they continued to push security updates for years later. It’s the least they could to after they shafted everyone that purchased one of these.

Long-term history matters when it comes to establishing a trend in a company’s behavior.

It takes an extra 16 months of work or so, but you can technically get a GUI working in Gentoo.

I don’t know that I would qualify “more” updates as better supported. Length and quality of support is a better indicator of overall support IMHO.

Google hardware - I have purchased two Google Home Maxes (both EOL’d), a Google OnHub (updates stopped after ~18 months), HTC M7(8?) Google Play Edition, Nexus…I had bad luck, but I’m not trusting another piece of Google hardware for my life.
